Not for novice
If you will be using it in a external drive you will need to format by installing windows so that it can install the software that create the file allocation table or other. If you are installing it as the master hard drive then you have no issues. The device works. However may need some technical knowledge in the case you are installing it in an external hard drive case.

A dirt cheap way to expand storage for anything you need, that's for sure. However, if you want to use this at all, you need to keep an important detail in mind: it is COMPLETELY blank. It is not formatted at all. Fortunately, there are lots of online tutorials on how to get it working. Simple, cheap, and so far reliable. Just dont expect SSD speeds!6 month update: after using this daily for about 6 months as a mass storage disk for games, the S.M.A.R.T system issued a warning that there were about 2000 unstable sectors on the drive. How bad that is I dont really know: I'm running the Windows 10 disk check utility to see if that fixes it, but I'm not optimistic. At least from what i can find, pending sectors are not good at all, so i hope it fixes.I still recommend this drive on the price alone: 20 bucks for 500 GB of storage is a solid deal, no matter the reliability problems. If I end up having to replace it, then I can say it's an excellent way to get a cheap expansion drive, even as just a placeholder. A little disappointed it didnt last longer, but you cant win 'em all.

Installed it myself on my samsung laptop
It is quite easy to install. But you have to look out for videos on youtube for the laptop under consideration which needs disk replacement. The difficulty may vary depending on the laptop brand.

Well received an empty package. That's new. If I could give you zero stars I would. Not even worth the customer service fight for what it is. Ridiculous haha.

Pagué el precio de comprar el más barato... Llegó empacado de la peor forma posible. Una pequeña bolsa de cartón sin protección. Funcionó por menos de 3 horas antes de comenzar a dar errores de sectores defectuosos.

Too good to be true, a "bad hard drive"
I bought this to upgrade my ps3 storage. I put it into my ps3. It worked for a couple days. During those days I got pretty far into a game. Then, I got a prompt saying "the storage system is corrupted". So, the ps3 tries to restore the hard drive. Unfortunately, it won't work (gets stuck at 27%). I will now have to reboot the system, and try something else. However, I will lose all my game data and risk this happening again. I hear that this happens with "bad hard drives". I do not recommend.
