Amazed at the quality and great appearance for the price.

When I first opened the compass I was shocked at the size of the box/compass itself! It is a lot bigger than I was expecting based on the price. Very impressive! The wooden box it comes in is lovely, it’s not perfect condition, but this adds to the antique feel. The polished brass looks fantastic in the sun light. It is an impressive item which looks more expensive than it is. My boyfriend was very pleased with his gift.The negatives:I have now ordered three of these compasses, all of which were not great quality/faulty.The first one needed a good polish as it had black smudges on it, it also has marks behind the glass that cant be wiped off (I have circled them in the image). Apart from that, it looked great and was functional - it could find north.The second one I ordered looked spectacular, not a mark on the compass or box. However, the latch on the box was wonky and bent - I had to force the latch to be able to open the box. The compass also did not work and flat out refused to find north. It is a shame because this was the best looking out of the three, it was incredibly clean, shiny, and more gold looking than the others.The third and final compass I ordered was ok, but it didn’t look as good as the first compass - the N/W/S/E etc markers look as though they have been ‘stamped’ twice, and look blurred compared to the first two.Finally, on the pictures the compass needle is depicted with an ‘N’, however all three of the compass’ have a red splodge on instead. I was disappointed by this and didn’t expect it, but my boyfriend didn’t seem to notice or care.I decided to show my boyfriend the compass’, and despite it’s flaws, he decided to keep the first compass as he absolutely loved it.It is a truly impressive and unique gift, however the quality is lacking. I suppose this explains the low price.If you’re not a perfectionist, I would say take the risk and buy this. If I didn’t have to order three, and there wasn’t faults with all of them, I would have probably given this item 4 or 5 stars.

Great item,partner loved it and it works

My father is an impossible person to buy gifts for (I bet most of us have one like him!), but because he likes sailing I thought this brass sundial and compass might fit the bill. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.Undoubtedly, this is one of those products that makes you go wow! when you open it. I mean that in terms of getting more for your money than you expect. It came with a velvet lined box (other similar products don't), and it was also bigger than I expected (see pictures). It was nicely packed and bubble-wrapped for safety.The brass sundial and compass itself is beautifully made and quite heavy.The only downsides were that the wooden box was incredibly difficult to open, and the inside of the box was a bit dusty.Needless to say, he was overjoyed with his gift and it now has pride of place next to his nautical binoculars (see picture)!I would highly recommend this product for the price.
