Review: Another excellent addition to this series - I’ve read all the books in this series which are up to about 50 at the time of this writing. This one is number 15 in the series. I have not read the “In Death’ books in order of publication but to be quite honest after the first three or four books this does not really matter as each book can stand alone and the author does a fine job of filling you in as the series progresses. This one deals with a super killer computer virus which actually kills people who use the infected computer. Suddenly pedophiles and the drug sellers who target children are having their minds blown – literally. The virus is being controlled by a vigilante group or cabal. The problem is that most of the public is more or less on their side and I have to admit that I shed few tears as these wretched people met what I felt was a just end. The problem was is that there was collateral damage and in the eyes of Eve murder is murder. Like all the books in this series Eve and her zillionaire husband Roarke take frequent breaks for extremely descriptive sexual encounters....absolute rowdy and frantic at times. Trust me folks, these encounters do not add or distract from the story. Since they are sort of repetitive I dent to skip the three, four or five pages it takes to cover each episode because if you have read one of them...well, you have read all of them. Hey, I am to old to be fascinated with such matters anyway...old and dignified you know. The language used in this novel and others may offend some but to be quite frank, in this day and age, you can hear far, far worse coming out of the mouths of the majority of middle school children when they are away from their parents. I tend to ignore such and the language is more or less acceptable in my opinion and not gratuitous ...but they I am an adult who has spent quite a number of decades in the work place and have heard a lot worse. While these books are filled with action and police procedural stuff, they also tell a wonderful love story between Eve Dallas and Roarke. This books, as other in this series, is well written, well plotted and for this particular genre the prose is quite good.
Review: Wow! This book was so good. - Every page of this book was a great story. It was intriguing and made me not want to quit reading. Things that seemed not possible were written so good that I wondered if computers and viruses could really do all that were shown in this story. This was a really big case for Eve and it was great to see her break it in to pieces that made sense. I loved the ending. I think everyone would love this book like I did. Just when I knew which of Rob's books was the best, I find the new best 👍😄 and this book is it. 💥

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good Secondary Character Development
*by S***M on September 2, 2024*

FINAL DECISION: Enjoyable addition to the series. The highlight is the development of secondary recurring characters. While the central conflict of procedural justice versus vigilantism is interesting, I found the character interactions (especially the recurring secondary characters) more compelling than the mystery itself. THE STORY: Lieutenant Eve Dallas investigates a series of deaths caused by a vigilante group using a computer virus to kill those they deem guilty but who have escaped legal justice. The case is especially challenging as it seems to implicate powerful and well-connected people in New York City. OPINION: I found PURITY IN DEATH to be a solid entry in the In Death series. The book's central conflict between procedural justice and vigilantism provides an interesting backdrop for the investigation, raising questions about the nature of justice and the role of law enforcement. The real strength of this installment, however, lies in the development of the secondary recurring characters. We see growth and change in familiar faces like Peabody, McNab, Feeney, and others. Their personal and professional developments add depth to the series' world and provide some of the most enjoyable moments in the book. Eve and Roarke's relationship continues to evolve, offering a mix of supportive and conflicting moments that keep their dynamic interesting. Their scenes together remain a highlight of the series. While the ethical questions raised by the vigilante group's actions are thought-provoking, it's the character interactions and growth that keep me coming back to these books. PURITY IN DEATH balances advancing the overall series arc through character development while providing a self-contained mystery. WORTH MENTIONING: A character from a prior book in the series makes a significant appearance. I loved checking in. CONNECTED BOOKS: PURITY IN DEATH is the 15th book in the In Death series. While the mysteries in each book are standalone, there are continuing and overarching storylines (especially regarding character relationships and development) that continue from book to book. I recommend reading the series in order, although it is not strictly necessary. STAR RATING: I give this book 4 stars.
