One The Road: Live In Germany [DVD] [2007]

Interesting DVD
This DVD is a bit of an oddity.A German made documentary, with no commentary of a 1994 tour. Rarely is the viewer told what city the band are actually in as they move around the country - however, they are shown to have a knack for finding pubs where they can play along in a `session` wherever they go.Interviews with each member of the group appear in short clips throughout, and although brief are actually very interesting. Strangely, Ronnie Drew doesn't speak until the film is nearly an hour old, and is noticeably absent from much of the after-show footage. My main quibble is with the track listing. Whilst most of the songs performed in concert are shown in full (over half the songs listed - albeit from different shows), many tunes listed only appear very briefly (only the opening line from a recording of The Town I Loved So Well is heard, for example).Perhaps not the ideal DVD for the casual viewer, however fans of the Dubliners should enjoy it.
