The Nobleman's Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks (Montague Siblings, 3) Hardcover – November 16, 2021

My God, I love these books so much. They just make me so happy. They're fun and heartfelt and I just love the Montague siblings, flaws and all. Nobleman's Guide is probably my favorite of the series, mainly because I related to Adrian and his anxiety so much that it hurt. His thought process was my exact thought process for years before prozac was able to lower the volume of the racing, intrusive thoughts. It was exactly as Adrian describes it, thoughts that snowball until you can think of nothing else, not being able to eat because literally everything makes your stomach hurt...So, yeah, I may have related to this book extra hard. It is perhaps the most accurate portrayal of what it is like to live with anxiety that I've ever read. Adrian's journey - his path to coping with his anxiety and depression - is the heart of the story, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has ever experienced it. But! This book isn't all about anxiety. It's also an action/adventure/mystery/romance, spanning from Morocco to the Netherlands to Iceland and everywhere in between. It's also laugh-out-loud hilarious. The whole series just brings me so much joy. Definitely one of my favorite books of 2021.

Having read these adventures, I can say that the author did a fine job making me care about her characters Tight plots and a fine ending to the series. Getting to know them has enriched my life.

I've highly enjoyed the other installments in this series and I was very much looking to this one and it did not disappoint. The story picks up several years after our last adventures and follows the youngest Montague sibling Adrian who has grown up believing he is the only Montague child and heir to his father's fortune and seat in parliament. Adrian has extreme anxiety and suffers constantly from the pressures of society and his role in it. When he inherits a broken spyglass from his recently passed mother and decides to look more into it, he comes face to face with the brother he never knew existed. What then follows is an adventure throughout Europe trying to find out the story of the spyglass with mishaps happening left and right, as you would expect with any Montague involved.Like the previous books, this one had me laughing out loud and shaking my head at just what can go wrong when you add Monty, Felicity and now Adrian into the mix. I really loved Adrian's POV as he deals with his overwhelming and debilitating anxiety as there are elements to his thoughts that echo my own (though not as extreme) and I found myself just really wanting to give him a hug. I loved the adventure, the myths, and interactions between these newfound siblings, and overall I just really loved getting swept up in the story again.

I absolutely loved every moment in this Montague sibling book - the characters were so vibrant and lovable and I hope the author considers writing more. Monty, Adrian, Percy, and Felicity (and the rest of the cast) all hold a huge place in my heart!

Lovely to read about mental health issues while also reading a thrilling adventure. The wedding of Monty and Percy made me feel all warm inside and the awesome letter Adrian wrote at the end gives me hope that I too will get better someday.

Adrien Montague struggles with depression and severe anxiety, so he rarely strays far from home. He’s been trying to step out of his comfort zone with the help of his fiancée, Louisa, but it’s the mysterious broken spyglass his late mother never let out of her sight that’s opened a very old locked door. When Adrien finds out he has two older siblings that his parents never once mentioned, his entire life is turned upside down yet again. Now he finds himself on a grand adventure with his disgruntled brother to find their sister before figuring out the mystery behind the spyglass.The book picks up almost 20 years since the Montague siblings had their last crazy adventure. We follow Adrien, the sole heir of the Montague estate. I really like that each book follows a different sibling. However, it was kind of irritating seeing the inner workings of Adrien’s mind at times. I think the author went a little overboard with showing us how severe Adrien’s anxiety is, which resulted in constantly telling us how bad it is over showing us how difficult it is to live with. It’s rather unfortunate because he’s a good character, the story is good, and I enjoyed seeing all my favorite characters again. It just gets weighed down by how much time is devoted to telling us about his anxiety in extreme detail.That said, I really did enjoy reading this. It’s fun to see Adrien accidentally kickstart their last big adventure. I enjoyed getting to see the characters come together. I loved seeing how my favorite characters have grown over the last 20ish years. It was also great to see what they’ll be doing for the rest of their lives. Much of the book deals with mental illness, so you should be aware of the following trigger warnings before deciding to pick it up: depression, suicide, parental death, and domestic abuse.

El libro llegó en perfectas condiciones. La historia en sí se centra en Adrián, el hermano más joven de los Montague, quien conforme avanza el libro conoce a Monty y Felicity y se ve envuelto en un misterio que le brindará el viaje de su vida acompañado de sus hermanos y de otros personajes entrañables de los anteriores libros de la trilogía.

Eu sou completamente louca pelo Monty e acho o livro da Felicity ainda melhor que o dele, então fiz questão de reler tudo que veio antes para ler esse! Preciso dizer que minhas expectativas estavam altas? Acho que não, né? Por um lado, eu me decepcionei um pouco com esse, porque não consegui gostar tanto do Adrian quanto dos outros, nem de longe. Mas a história é muito boa, a conclusão dela é maravilhosa, e eu simplesmente amei todas as cenas em que o Monty ou a Felicity apareciam.Sério, nem consigo explicar o quanto eu amo esses dois e como amei ver a trajetória deles tantos anos depois! A autora realmente conseguiu manter a personalidade deles, mas ao mesmo tempo mostrá-los mais maduros. Além disso, foi incrível ver que eles conseguiram viver como queriam, mas que isso também não significa que a vida deles foi perfeita e impecável! Não tenho nada para criticar sobre o Monty e a Felicity! Super releria esse livro só por eles e vou ser eternamente grata à autora por ter criado personagens e histórias tão maravilhosos!Mas esse terceiro livro é pelo ponto de vista do Adrian, e esse é o maior problema dele. Adrian não é uma pessoa ruim, mas ele tem uma ansiedade crônica tão forte, que foi quase insuportável ficar 'dentro da cabeça dele'. Entendo que essa era até a intenção, já que para ele também é praticamente insuportável, mas não dá para curtir tanto a narrativa assim. Não dá, fiquei incomodada sim. Talvez eu seja mais sensível para esse tipo de coisa, não sei. Não é algo que precisava ter sido mudado na escrita, talvez, porque ele é assim mesmo, mas tampouco é algo que me agradou.Acho que teria funcionado bem melhor se o livro fosse mais curto ou se tivesse intercalado com a narrativa pelo ponto de vista de outra pessoa. Mas também não é impossível de gostar e, depois de metade do livro, eu tentei só aceitar e não me incomodar. Tentei focar nos acontecimentos e não nos pensamentos dele, o que funcionou bem para mim! O enredo é bem interessante, eu amei o clímax e o final, mesmo que fosse inteiro focado em Adrian, e todas as cenas que tinham o Monty ou a Felicity (depois de um ponto da história, eram várias) valeram por eles!Sério, não consigo descrever o quanto eu amo esses personagens e a história desde o primeiro livro até as últimas palavras desse! O epílogo foi talvez a melhor parte e tenho certeza de que vou reler, tanto o livro quanto o epílogo, várias vezes na minha vida! Apesar de ser um livro que segue o mesmo estilo dos anteriores, uma viagem pela Europa com uma questão fantástica os movendo, tem um tom bem diferente. Acho que começar a ler já esperando um personagem com uma mente traiçoeira e uma ansiedade absurda e constante já te ajuda a não se decepcionar, além de que descobrir como Monty e Felicity estão faz valer toda a história!Claro que recomendo, esse livro só aumentou meu amor por essa série, e estou louca para descobrir o que a autora vai escrever em seguida!

I'm late to the [farewell] party but so glad I still came along - this is a great final addition to the Montague Siblings series, marked out yet again by a rollicking plot and some brilliant character work with the leads. Here the focus is on Adrian, the brother neither Monty nor Felicity ever knew, and the dynamic between the three when their paths eventually do cross is worth the wait. Adrian suffers from crippling anxiety and displays both obsessive and compulsive traits, through all of which author Mackenzi Lee speaks from personal experience. The insight into both brothers and sister is impressive, but the supporting characters are no less accomplished, and the descriptive work creates some distinct and memorable backdrops to the action.I'm past raising an eyebrow at the anachronistically liberal politics on display in these novels, mostly because this is the last one and as the reader you therefore want everyone to be happy. In any case, Lee places these things in a very positive light, which is where they belong. (The lovely George's flirting with the entirely straight Adrian is a joy to behold!) It's a shame we won't be getting more of the Montagues' story, even though the tail-end of the book introduces a new character and setting that seems ripe for further novels - or perhaps a spinoff - but it's delightful to have kept company with them in the three-and-a-bit tales we've been given.
