Nice quality fob, but don’t expect to put your old metal key slab in it and go!
The fit and finish of this product are nice, and it feels solid in your hand. If you are getting this to replace and “refurbish” an existing key you have, there are a few things you should know: 1) You will need to transfer the electronics board and the glass transponder chip from the old key shell to this one. The board is easy, and the transponder is too if you have a little acetone on hand to dissolve the adhesive holding it in (try nail polish remover if you don’t have acetone). If there is something wrong with either the board or the chip, or you break them while swapping them over, you will need to visit your dealer for a whole new key; 2) As other reviews have said, you can’t just swap the metal key slab from your old key into this one and have it work well. You either have to modify the old slab with a file on the sides, or do what I ended up doing and just pay a locksmith $10 to copy the old pattern into the metal blank that comes with this one. If you try the old slab without modification, there is too much friction to allow the key to rotate out when the button is pressed. You can leave the screw loose as others have suggested, but it makes the fob look like a cheap replacement, and the small crack will collect dirt and any loose strings inside your pockets. If you file the sides of the metal slab, you risk changing where the little metal tab stops sit and the key doesn’t stay closed all the way. It sticks out just enough to catch on things. I tried both of these alternatives before breaking down and just having the new slab cut to match.

Good
Works like new. Using a youtube video, I was able to transfer all parts into the new shell, including the existing key. No need for a locksmith or dealership!

Great to renew busted old key fob frames
By carefully disassembling this and trans-planting the PCB (little electronics board) inside your old fob, as well as the mechanical key, you essentially gain a new key for very low bucks.Suggest getting a new battery while you are at it.Instructions for the transplant:The mechanical part of new and old key fobs pulls away from the "main body" with the buttons and "ring"; then you open the "main body" with a little mild force. These are tricky bits and require just a bit more force than most people find comfortable. You will see the PCB in your old fob along with the old battery. Install new battery and your "old" PCB in the new "main body" then close it. Attach the "old" mechanical key bit to the "new" main body, and voila. The parts all snap together solidly and works just like they ought after the transplant.PS: The weird looking flower thing is an irrelevant add-on supposedly to detect too much UV - nevermind. It does seem to have just about the most ugly colors possible, and I can't imagine what it has to do with the key fob. Mine found their way into the trash bin.

Great key shell replacemnt
Practically as good as OEM. Exactly what you need if your shell is falling apart, and at a great price.

Works Perfectly
This is exactly as advertised and works great. I don't know what the other person was talking about that it was "previously activated" . . . it's just a shell with a key blank. There is nothing to "activate." Maybe the locksmith just needed 70 bucks.I took the guts (circuit board and immobilizer chip) from the old key and then swapped key blades. All-in-all, it took me about five minutes. There was no programming involved. You have to pry off the VW emblem and remove the screw to open the blade side of the key to swap the blade and immobilizer.

Nice replacement.
I recently broke the key ring part to my key fob and purchased this to replace it. Works just fine.Didn't want to hassle with the immobilizer so i just swapped the circuit board into the new button section, slapped it on to the old key section and called it a day.

Great replacement
Bought this to replace the key fob for my 08 Jetta as the buttons were shot and the key chain loop had broken off. It worked great swapping the electronics out was a snap thanks to google searches and my key looks brand new again.
