desertcart.com: Wordly Wise 3000 Book 5: Systematic Academic Vocabulary Development: 9780838876053: Hodkinson, Kenneth, Adams, Sandra: Books Review: Overall, great resource for vocabulary & spelling growth - My 4th grader is loving the ease of learning vocabulary in this book. Itโs our first using this curriculum. Iโm loving the repetition of the words, using it in different ways, the applicable age appropriate essays, and the usefulness of the words. It is perfect to go through one chapter a week and test spelling also. They also include Latin roots and โfactoidsโ that he finds helpful in understanding origins and meaning. Additionally, the definitions include example sentences, alternate definitions, and how to change to a different form ( noun, verb, adjective). Some chapters have a crossword, some a riddle code which adds to variation and increases his interest. Also, the list of vocabulary words for each chapter are re-written on every page of that chapter so he doesnโt need to glib back to the initial definition list unless heโs stuck and has to re-read definitions for alternate meanings. I donโt super love the sentence challenges at the end as not all are intuitive and it makes my son question his confidence of his knowledge. Weโve decided he can re-word his answers to show comorehension. The paper tears easily so he needs to use pen instead of mechanical pencil, which isnโt a problem for us. Overall, we would recommend it. Review: Great for home teaching - Great for homeschooling. We use every year.

Watch you childrenโs vocabulary grow!
This is a great homeschool tool that combines reading comprehension with some basic grammar along with learning new vocabulary in context. My children enjoy doing their work in these books. I credit my own decent vocabulary with Wordly Wise having used it in high school. So glad they are still publishing them! The essays in which the vocabulary to be learned is embedded cover varied and interesting topics and are,thankfully,non- ideological.

The curriculum introduces new vocabulary words each lesson and gives a good definition on the words
I use Wordly Wise with my daughter. The curriculum introduces new vocabulary words each lesson and gives a good definition on the words. There is then a series of tests, some multiple choice, some using the words in a sentence. The chapter ends with a story, which uses all of the new words, and a series of questions about the story. It is a very well put together curriculum and I have noticed my daughter's vocabulary increase a lot since we started it. I looked forward to using this series next school year.

Great Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, and Writing Practice
I personally love Wordly Wise and think it's a great mixed resource for vocabulary, writing, and reading comprehension reinforcement. As a teacher, I have recommended it to many parents. I know some parents HATE the design of the exercises (thus four stars), but from a teacher's perspective it's the perfect practice resource.

Best Workbook, if you have to use one :)
EXCELLENT BOOKS! This series is the best I have seen and I wish all kids would do it. It's challenging yet fun in the way that it makes you think. In fact you build your vocabulary skills (students), and knowing some strategies on how to use this book effectively, can really help them apply them (new academic vocabulary) to their every day life.

Love this brand for homeschooling!
Love this brand for homeschooling. Make sure you check out the brand website to find out what numbers are associated with what grades!! They have changed the pattern of number to grade over the years and you want to make sure you are ordering the right grade for your child. Woul d also be great as a supplement to public school for children who are struggling with vocabulary, writing or reading comprehension.

My son funny enjoys English. The layout of each lesson is easy and understandable. It is even improving my vocabulary. Part of me wants a book for myself. Lol

Good material however I found many words were common and only a few of the words from each lessons were really academic harder words which my 10 year old could learn. However, the lessons and exercises are very good and after completing them kids will remember the newly learned words... I am not sure if I will purchase it for the grade 6 ...
