Living Dharma: Teachings and Meditation Instructions from Twelve Theravada Masters

Life changing book. I have taken Goenka Vipassana courses, but that was my only exposure to the details of the method. Coming across the 4 establishments of mindfulness in the discourses of the Bhudda made me realize Goenkas courses are the real deal but then reading this book made me appreciate the full context. By seeing 12 different methods in detail, various shades of vipassana, you realize what's most essential. There is no one path, but there are key elements that are needed and 4 or 5 of these masters really resonated with me. Made me understand and decide to more fully commit to this method. This was an awesome read. I thought Jack Kornfield offered a very unbiased overview of Theravada masters and there teachers. His candid words and thoughtful questions made this a great read.

The title of the book is apt. Masters of essential Buddhist doctrine and its working application through mindfulness meditation explain their various approaches in following the presumed method of the Buddha's pathway to enlightenment. A recent history of what is arguably the most direct revelation of the elements of one of the great ethical philosophies becomes manifest as it is handed along to the reader by direct accounts from the still living conferees of the Dharma. The result of their conferral is an irreplaceable revelation of the method and its results. The commentary of Jack Kornfield is a great gift in the facilitation of understanding to the contemporary audience. A work of inestimable value to the seeker in the age-old pilgrimage toward personal penetration of ultimate reality.

Very good so far, I am a daily meditator using the mindfulness practice, but it is very interesting learning the techniques and practices of the masters in this book.

I would definetly recommend this book. Very interesting and enjoyable to read at any level of practice. Having read many similar books this ones near the top.

The author did a great research on the origin of Vipassana and it’s different techniques. Must read book for all Vipassana meditators.

great experience over all

As a confirmed Buddhist meditator I have found this book to be enlightening and supportive in the activity of meditation. Walking around a statue enables the viewer to have a fuller experience of the sculptor's work. Reading the wisdom of these different masters gives a greater understanding of the meditative endevor.
