Nice draw knife
Received with a nice sharp edge, debarked some maple with ease, tried with some ash which was much harder but still worked, may need a slight sharpening. Overall well built and does what it should.

good tool
I wanted to use it before I made a review and it's holding up very well still has factory edge on it and I have probably stripped about 20 trees with it and the edge is holding up very well.

Workable Drawknife with User Effort
When it comes to tools, you either have more money or more time. This ladies and gents is a time tool. Made is Germany by OxHead the handles are solid and the steel is good. #1 Sharpening- it took a massive amount of effort to flatten the bottom of this drawknife. I labored for four hours on a DMT Diamond extra course stone and only got to within a 1/4” of the cutting edge, and if you have ever sharpened then you know 1/4” mite as well be a mile. I was at give up until I decided to use my bench top belt sander and in about an hour I had the bottom flat. Then I went through the progression of extra course Diamond, course, fine, 5000 grit shapton waterstone, then 8000 grit waterstone. I then focused on my bevel. I typically use an honor guide to sharpen but there was no way to do that with a drawknife, so I was forced to hand sharpen and set the angle by eye and feel. I was a little uneasy about this but once I got going I felt better about my effort. I took a few swipes on the back on my 8000 grit waterstone then finished up polishing with a leather strop and green compound. This baby is now surgical sharp. #2 usage- I took a piece of scrap southern yellow pine 2x4 and tested my work. The drawknife cuts like a dream and I have no doubts that it will work fine for the project I intend to use it on. I am going to shape a hickory handle for my grandfathers Kelly True Temper Perfect Double Bit Axe head. The drawknife combined with a spokeshave should be just what the doctor ordered. In closing the drawknife is made of solid tool steel that takes a very sharp edge. The handles are solid and affixed in a way that I don’t see how they could ever come loose. It took quite a bit of time and effort to make this a workable tool, however I knew that when I pushed the ole buy button. The Germans at OxHead ( Oschenkopf) know how to make a good tool that any man with the tools and wherewithal can make this baby work. I would recommend if you have more time than money otherwise shop elsewhere. There is a reason Barr Tools sells a drawknife very similar to this for $147.00. It comes flat and finished and ready to hone and polish. If you don’t mind putting in the work and are on a budget then by all means this makes a fine worker.

Used to strip back from multiple logs, worked great and still sharp

No complaints
Works great. Using it for stripping bark off of fence posts. It could use a little sharpening out of the box but not bad. I think I would get a shorter one to get if I had to do it again to get in the tighter areas.

Fairly well built
Debarked a dozen or so poles so far with no issues. Fairly sharp to begin with. Some people will never be satisfied with anythings sharpness UNLESS they sharpen it themselves. Then its always the best ever.
