Jones Beach: An Illustrated History

Great book as far as it went but this is not a recent a recent history. This book only goes up to 2010 and much has happen since then at Jones Beach. Millions of dollars has been poured into making the beach better since. Another edition should be printed coming up to the present.

Am enjoying the history and reading the interesting stories about Jones Beach ~ a place I've vistied for the past 56 years ~ and just 10 miles down Wantagh Pky. ~ visited on my honeymoon in 57 ~ danced in the evening ~ fished off the pier with my boys ~ walk on the boardwalk now that I'm an old lady! Something for everyone ~ great in all seasons.

A good historical record of its past.

Great pictures and narrative of Jones beach. Loved it. What memories this book brought back. The author really did his homework. Many stories from former residents.

A birthday gift for my father who I believe in his 70+ years, has only read 3 books. My mother says he can't put this down, which makes me happy.Highly recommended for someone who grew up in this area of the island.

"Jones Beach: An Illustrated History", is a wonderful book for anyone who has ever loved Jones Beach, or even for someone who wants to just look at a piece of New York and Long Island history.Although the many photographs are worthwhile all on their own, the text enhances them, for instance, the rich pirate history behind the name, 'Jones'.

A must read for anyone who's visited or plans to visit Jones Beach; esp interesting stories re "Pirate Jones," the "Indian Princess" and Guy Lombardo (I had to describe his career to my adult daughter!).

Growing up on Long Island we went to Jones Beach all the time. We would go early in the day, have supper, swim in the pool and travel sandily home. The pictures are wonderful. So much I did not know about the park. Enjoyed it immensely.
