Easy as A-B-C!
The 8-MINUTE MEDITATION...book by Victor Davich is a wonderful beginner's guide to meditating. Without going into the philosophical or religious aspects of meditation, Davich presents just the basics in simple to understand and humorous writing. The book is broken into three parts:Part One - explains the what, why, and how to use the 8-MINUTE MEDITATION...book giving the reader a basic understanding of what they'll be doing and what to expectPart Two - this is the actual meditation program. It's broken down into 8 weeks and 8 chapters, with each chapter/week focusing on different forms of meditation that you'll be doing. The chapters are short and all begin with what you'll be doing, and followed by a Q&A that should answer any concerns or questions that come up that week. Very helpful. I read one chapter a week so as to not anticipate the next week's meditation technique.Part Three - this is at the end of the 8-weeks and if you decide to extend the 8-minute meditation to a longer duration, Davich provides the info here.I really enjoyed the book! Having never meditated before, I now meditate 8-minutes everyday and it has become part of my daily routine. Although I've completed the 8-weeks, I haven't extended the duration of my sessions because I feel that 8-minutes works for me right now. Maybe in the future I'll extend the time. The first time I meditated, following the book, I busted out laughing! In the beginning section, Davich explains how simple it is to start meditating by just focusing on your breath. In fact that's the first week meditation. Anyway, he explains that even though it sounds simple it takes some effort to remain focused on your breath. He recounts that this was what he did the first time he meditated and thought it would be easy. He writes that within 20 seconds he started planning meals and shopping lists etc., and couldn't believe how many thoughts were popping up in his head.Well, I thought it would be simple too. But like Davich, after about 10-seconds all kinds of thoughts started firing off in my head...and they came fast and furious, and that's why I had to laugh! As far as improving my state of mind, I have to admit that I don't obsess about things as much as I used to. Not to say that I don't get irritated or frustrated or anxious, but now I realize what's going on and I'm able to let it go.So if you're curious about meditating, the 8-MINUTE MEDITATION...book is a great place to start.

Solid meditation guidance book
8 minutes is not enough time for most people to even get their brain in the same zip code as their body but the instruction and guidance is sound and worth investigating. Caution - a lot of these books are virtually identical, so you may want to research the authors to find a good fit for your situation. For example, another book I bought called Zen Golf covers a lot of the same concepts but is conveyed as a practical application (for golfers) which added quite a bit more value for me versus the standard payoff that all of the generic books offer. Anyway, if time commitment is a problem, this one certainly will fit.

Best meditation book by far
This is the 6th copy I have bought bc I keep giving it to others! I have read MANY books on meditation and this one is by far the best in terms of getting someone newly into meditation. It explains things in the most simple of terms and doesn’t project an overly religious/spiritual type presence that can turn some people away from trying. I’m currently pregnant and planing natural birth and my midwife recommended some meditation books; I suggested she add this one to her list and she was beyond impressed by it!

Interested in meditation? Then buy this book!
Before reading this book I had never meditated and found a lot of the material on meditation too abstract, vague, and out there. A lot of people starting out have this issue and a lot of people really don't have a concept of what meditation really is and what it isn't. If you find yourself in that group then I would whole heartedly recommend this book by Victor Davich to be your first stop on your meditation journey. Even if you only have a passing interest in meditation I guarantee this book will teach you something and open your eyes to the powerful practice of meditation.Victor makes meditation simple and injects a lot of humor into this small but powerful book. He provides a good definition of what meditation is (allow, allow, allow) and tells you to not worry about enlightenment but just to meditate. A lot of people who are interested in meditation will probably approach their first session of meditation like I did. Expecting to be a Zen warrior monk after their first try. Victor quickly dispels these myths and provides a realistic goal for you to have. And you know what? I couldn't be happier that he did. Had he not I would have thought I was doing something wrong or thought I wasn't good enough to continue practicing and likely would have quit altogether. I think others would have too.In short, buy this book if you're looking to gain some peace and happiness in your life. I recently completed the eight week plan and I can honestly say that I gained a profound sense of peace and tranquility after practicing Victor's meditation techniques described in this book. I even routinely did more than one eight minute session in one day because after a while meditation began to make me feel incredibly peaceful and happy! And in this day an age of constant stress, information bombardment, and always being on the go that's a priceless thing to have gained.

sehr amerikanisch
Buchrezension ist natürlich immer subjektiv. Ich fand viele Technicken ok aber der Autor legt sehr viel Wert darauf das Meditiren einfach sein muss und übererklärt viele Sachen. Evtl wäre es sonst zu dünn geworden.
