The unit I received came with a 2-prong Standard USA plug. The unit also runs on 3 AA batteries, that can be inserted into the base as well.

Yes, if not using a hot soldering iron although the main purpose is to allow both hands to be free.

Will this stand hold XLR cable ends for repair or is the holding clips too small ???

YEs it will hold the end side of the XLR connector just not the whole rounded side of it. i did use it too for xlr's repair.
