Liaigre: Creation 2016-2020

All the ingredients for a really outstanding book are here: creativity, beauty, a predominance of natural materials, glorious settings, a wealth of ideas and stimulation - and then the shine goes out of the window like a cloud blocking the sun.... because some ‘bright’ spark has chosen to print it ALL in a dull, matt finish which to my eyes sucks the very lifeblood out of the whole visual experience. It might be easier to handle and on the odd occasion enhance certain textures and finishes - but for the most part it makes for a frustratingly muted affair. The crystal clear digital photos you see here in Amazon’s listing are unrealistic and not at all representative of what you see in the book itself. Others may not be so sensitive to this issue, but I am. Perhaps I’ll get used to it in time but overall it’s a detraction; notwithstanding the exquisitely rarefied content. Still, there’s no doubting the talent of Studio Liaigre - envy those who live in such refinement!

I’ve always admired the work of Christian Liaigre and was interested to see the recent work of the studio since his departure. The book covers just five projects with plenty of photographs of each. There is very little , if any written content and from reading reviews I had expected more. Strangely some photos have captions and others where information may have been given are lacking any caption.The greatest and overriding disappointment is the flat matt finish of the photography that borders on the dull and almost out of focus. The darkness of some images makes it very hard to see any detail at all.I’d have expected better from the publishing house and surprised that Liaigre approved this production. I think of Liaigre as epitomising luxury, elegance and simplicity, sadly the print production does little in my opinion to convey the subtlety of exquisite finishes and materials Liaigre is renowned for. A search online will find beautiful, clear, rich images of the very same dull photographs found in the book. Buy the book if you’d like to see more of the recent works but don’t buy it for rich, detailed, quality print production……you won’t find that here.

Beautiful book, beautifully laid out, gorgeous typeface , I loved the matt paper as you get no sheen from the light so you can easily see all the images. Stunning houses that really show off the excellence of Liaigre design and a peek into another world. Would have liked one more property to be shown , felt 5 houses was a little short, the inspiration pages take up a fair bit of the book , overall a must buy if you love design and Liaigre.
