Vanicream Moisturizing Ointment - 2.5 oz - Unscented Ointment Formulated for Sensitive Skin

I work with a lot of solvents. I also now wash my hands and use hand sanitizers in quantities here-to-for unimaginable. I begin waking up with skin so dry it was actually painful. So I did what I usually do in such circumstances which rather than look up dodgy information on the Internet, I asked the experts. I asked every person I knew who had great skin what their secret was. I have an acquaintances who’s skin is so buttery soft. I also have a friend who is a dermatologist. She works at a world-class hospital. I specifically asked for non-prescription stuff. And while she deals with more serious problems in her work, she actually uses this for herself at home. Doctors have to wash their hands even more frequently and with stronger soap. She informed me that most doctors she knows just use nothing and end up with horribly dry skin. Go figure. But the ones that use something typically will use Vanicream. And I pretty much got the same answer from every woman that I asked, and the dermatologist. And that’s vanicream. They told me to put it on my hands before I go to bed and wear gloves to bed. This is the cream and it’s a lot thicker and stickier than the lotion which I think is more for every day use. This is more intense and I think it’s meant to go on and sit on your skin overnight. I also bought the lotion which I use several times throughout the day. That leaves a lot less resident. It’s all part of a comprehensive treatment system here. Within three days my hand started feeling not only back to normal but better than they have been since I was in my youth.They told me to put it on my hands before I go to bed and wear gloves to bed. I’ve started to use it on other parts where I get really dry skin like on the elbow and knee joints and it’s been quite effective. It’s reasonably priced and it works well. I appreciate the fact that it doesn’t really have a scent and it really contains no controversial ingredients. There is another brand of a similar type that I don’t want to put the name in here because that’s usually what seems to get my reviews rejected. It was also the go to brand for many many years but they recently change the recipe and if you look up this other product, you will see that the more recent reviews have been very negative. If you’re familiar with the singer Bobby McFerrin, and go “who Ferrin”, this other product will rhyme with that. I have since passed this recommendation on the several other friends and everybody has been quite happy with the results. No more of the mineral oil chemical garbage that I used to just grab from the drugstore aisle. This is the stuff. I know it’s a little hard to demonstrate but I tried to take some close-up of my hands. The first pic I’ve been using the cream and lotion regularly, and on the second picture the other hand I stopped using it for about a day and a half to see if I can tell any difference. I certainly can but I don’t know if it’s demonstrable through photographs. But yes my hand that I stopped using the lotion on and actually got a little more red. I guess the dryness can cause subdermal inflammation. You can clearly see the difference in texture though between the cream and the lotion. I don’t know if that will be helpful to anyone but I think if you’re going to try the stuff you should get both.

If you’re like me and look like you’re headed into a wrestling match at bedtime then you know the struggles of of wearing retainers and mouth guards. I wear a lower retainer and an upper mouth guard at night for grinding my teeth. It is soooo much plastic and I have a tiny mouth! Needless to say this puts a lot of pressure and stretching on your lips and mouth. Every morning I would wake up with actual splits in mostly my upper lip. This would be right down the center or the sides of my mouth which is super painful. It was absolutely horrible and would take days to heal. My dermatologist finally recommended this ointment to me as I was also having burning and horrible dryness on my lips on top of wearing dental appliances. I had tried every single natural, otc or other types of lip balm/chapstick! Nothing did the job. This vanicream ointment is absolutely hands down the only thing that has complete stopped all of my splitting,cracking, burning and dry lip problem. I do have to use it every night bc of my appliances but I don’t have to re apply throughout the day like I did with all the other products. It works very fast and heals quickly. I cannot say enough good things about this product. I usually apply it after I have brushed my teeth when my lips are damp. This helps lock in the moisture even more. It takes some getting used to the texture but after that you won’t want to use anything else. I wish they made this in a chapstick type tube! I’ve been using this product for several years without any problems. I hope this helps the next person.

My dermatologist recommended this to me after being at my wits end with severe eczema on my lips and around my mouth. I suffered in pain and embarrassment from what I call "clown mouth" for far too long before finding this stuff. I have to preface this review by stating that I use certified organic and/or 100% natural skincare, hair, and makeup.. except for this stuff. My lips were so bad that every lip balm I tried, natural and other brands such as Blistex, carmex, etc. did NOTHING for my lips. I've probably tried most every lip product out there in my lifetime. Sometimes a product would work for me for a couple of weeks, and then my lips would become immune to it. My lips would get dry and red/flaky all around my mouth and lips, and my lips would crack in the corners which would get so bad sometimes I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to eat. Besides looking hideous my lips would range from being uncomfortable to horribly painful all of the time. I've lived this way on and off since I was a child and I am now 26 years old. I've been using the Vaniply ointment for several months now, and have already reordered a 3-pack after purchasing a tube from my dermatologist. It keeps my lips soft and hydrated, and I only have to reapply 3-6 times a day. Which is huge for me personally because before I was putting on lip balm constantly because I was in so much discomfort. Every other lip balm I tried felt like it did not even penetrate my lips, which felt like PLASTIC. To be more clear, it felt like my lips were coated in a plastic barrier keeping and moisturizers from getting through and helping my lips heal. It was maddening! Within a day or two after I first started using this my lips were dramatically improved, and for the first time in a long time, that plastic feeling went away, and my lips were finally being nourished. I'm happy to report that I no longer have "clown mouth" flare ups, or cracked lips. For anyone who is discouraged and suffers from moderate to severe chapped lips/eczema you must give this a try. It was the only thing that has worked for me, I hope it works for you too.

I was struggling with chapped lips since October 2019 to April 2020. Nothing helps. I tried many chapped lips treatment products from Aquaphor, Lip Repair, to Burt's Bees. Nothing worked except the TATCHA Kissu Lip Mask from Sephora. However, TATCHA is not available on Amazon, and it's expensive ($28 with Sephora's shipping fee for a tiny 0.32 oz bottle). I kept searching and decided to try Vanicream Ointment because of its reasonable price, express shipping with Amazon Prime. I hesitated at first since the packaging of Vanicream is not as attractive and eye-catching as competitors like CeraVe, Burt's Bees, etc. Still, I decided to give it a try due to many positive customer reviews of this product on Amazon, and also becausee my lips got too bad to the point that it hurts when I try to open my mouth to eat. I ordered late at night, the Vanicream Ointment arrived the next day before 1 pm (woohoo, thanks Amazon team, especially during this Pandemic time). It calms the burns and cracks of my lips immediately, and it stopped hurting after 2 days of using. Now my lips are perfectly smooth and moist again. In fact, I just order the big bottle (13 oz) of this product! Thanks Vanicream and Amazon! I'd definitely recommend this product to everyone who struggles with chapped or extremely dry lips like me.

I like it. It's been really helping with a hormonal acne patch that I have on my cheek. The swelling has noticeably gone down. However, when placed around my eyes or lips, it seemed to trigger some molting. I don't know why, but it was weird. The texture is like a combo between vaseline and chapstick, pleasant. The scent is not repulsive or even noticeable once on the skin. I guess I would describe the smell akin to a faint plastic scent or maybe even vaguely like the scent of latex gloves. But again, it's not pervasive. All in all, I'm glad I bought this. I've been suffering with that hormonal acne cyst patch for months now, and other than sulfur, this is the only topical that has reduced inflammation. And is the only topical that actually started to heal the area.

Since I don't use mineral oil, petrolatum, or even hyaluronic acid on my skin, due to adverse reactions, it was hard to find anything heavy-duty enough for use on my face and throat to repair my damaged skin barrier. Those 3 ingredients are in so many brands, and my usually oily, reactive skin, unfortunately, qualifies as being very sensitive to begin with. Said damage happened after a TERRIBLE allergic reaction to niacinamide in some new skin care products I tried a few months ago. Think red, itchy, burning skin with weird, cystic breakouts. I was curious and hopeful and checked out the ingredient list, and it did NOT contain any known offenders lurking about, ready to heap fresh carnage on my skin. So, fast forward to a day later and a Prime same-day, rush shipment of Vanicream Moisturizing Ointment, and I'm in skin heaven. Seriously, folks. AFTER ONLY ONE APPLICATION. Even the Emu oil I bought a bit ago, thinking it would do the trick, never performed like this stuff. VMO has come to my rescue. The skin on my face and neck feels better than it has in quite some time. I'm thinking that continued use will be restorative, and I'll be back at baseline soon. Anyway, that's my hymn about VMO. My tube of it is laying right next to the keyboard!

What can I say! OMG! This stuff literally has saved my life and my nose. I have sjogrens syndrome and years ago also had turbinate reduction. Because of these two combined my nasal passages were bone dry and itchy for years,and hurt so bad! No amount of humidity even after moving to Florida would help. I literally tried everything on the market for nasal passages and nothing worked. In November of 2019, my dad had cancer of the nose and radiation burned all his tissues and lining of the nose and his oncologist recommended this for inside the nasal passages. I never even knew that this could be applied in the nose. So, I contacted the company which is based in Minnesota and they said yes. Many people in the north suffer in the winter and this helps. I asked my dermatologist for a third opinion and she said yes. They recommend it for nasal passages that dry out from those taking Accutane. I was hesitant to put anything else in my nose. However, I did and have been using twice a day for four months. It soothes and keeps my passages moist. It has not solved all the itching as that may be due to allergies. But, a definite improvement. I even produce mucus now because it has helped moisten areas as I breathe. I order from Amazon and make sure that this is not a third party resell as I want the official product. Product is similar in texture to Vaseline, but not quite as goopy. There was no scent and it worked well for me. I used this product for several nights following a laser treatment I had done on my face, chest and hands. My skin was very dry , irritated and flaky following the procedure and this ointment helped give a little comfort during the healing phase. I am not sure if I will use it again on my face ... but I could definitely see using it on the heels of my feet or on my lips at night as a treatment. Not for daytime use in my opinion. Great product for chapped ,dry skin and great price. I would also recommend La Roche posay CICAPLAST BAUME for a less sticky, creamier dry skin treatment.
