Guidance on how to level, i am having a terrible time getting it level.

Hi Tom, I kinda struggled too until I realized that you have to make sure your tripod is set up on all axises even before you place your transit on it. Once you make sure the top tripod platform is perfectly level (using the enclosed plastic level that comes with it) in all directions, it should be relatively easy to set the transit up perfectly. If you are still struggling, let me know and I'll try to do a video showing how to set it up.

Can you lock the unit from turning once you site a stake so when you tip it you know you stay locked on?

I haven’t found anything that locks it. But you can move and set the degree file so if it does get turned you know where to reset it to and still be on line.
