I use the red dye, what I like about the dye is that it doesn't need much in the box to keep producing a solid line, I can pull the line without all sorts of chalk spewing out everywhere and trashing the surface of what I'm laying out. the dye is pretty serious stuff, you'll want to handle it as if it was permanent ink. a little bit will travel a long way, and it does not fade or rub off. I'm a framer so everything I snap on will be covered up. very nice sharp lines.
