Its a remake not a remaster.
This game is a remake, meaning the defining characteristic of Gears of war 1 had to show and stick around; literally Fps , clunky, and simply slow in comparison to Gears 2/3. This was due to time restrain and the port simply not working as well to Xbox one but the way I see it it was not only an opportunity for Black tusk to experiment as well as measure sales but it simply gave them the opportunity to get used to the essence of what makes a Gears game a Gears game; this is where it all started after all.The graphics and story are revamped give both newcomers a beautiful first time experience and the veterans, like me, the nostalgia we hoped for. The game is absolutely amazing in comparison and for those who don't agree.... They've gotta be blind or relying on memory (try gears 1 for Xbox 360 its like $5) I cant make it past the 1st chapter even if you paid me. I simply don't have enough patience for the outdated mechanics. However I found myself walking though gears UE analyzing the graphics in ever chapter, amazed instead of running through and even attempting to wallbouce since the speed was now fast enough to consider it. Inn every chapter I noticed the scene was always kept true to gow1 but updated to have more of an effect in rage of emotions due to a now noticeable blood shed, light coming in on a garden, or the characters reacting to someone's death who was before disregarded and unimportant and It hurts ... Haha however the big con I noticed was the AI...they're broken and seem to have been doing drugs since they run into walls, take cover on the wrong walls keeping themselves exposed, and occasionally having a dance off which could cause single players a major issue and I find it unforgivable to have such a massive issue left un-addressed.Multiplayer wise.... It's a brutal as it's ever been and not for everyone. You won't be able to pick it up as easily as a call out duty game or halo. People playing this game are unforgiving and its best to play alongside someone else or a team if youre new lol.People will constantly complain about the gnasher accuracy (as always) , speed, and power weapon rages and I doubt this will ever change but I have to say this is an enjoyable multiplayer in comparison to GOWJ and I would regard it almost as highly as GOW3. There are kinks that need to be worked out but nothing I noticed that couldn't be patched in later and it shouldn't take 1000 patched like with destiny or the, still broken halo mcc; this works. Lol my personal issue with the game is not having surround sound but, correct me if I'm wrong, this seems to be a feature mostly unsupported by Xbox one and not just the game in general. If you buy this and you're new, please, please, please, play the campaign first and get used to the mechanics since multiplayer may turn you off from the game. It's a shark tank but it's the rush you get once you've gotten used to it that will keep some of us up until 7am playing -it may take some brutal beatings before you begin to enjoy it. XD

A Remaster Done Right
Gears is as important for MS as Halo so I believe it was incredibly smart to have this remaster done with Gears 4 coming next year.Honestly, I'm a much bigger Gears fan than Halo fan so I was really glad to see this even though I still own all the Gears games on my 360 and I'm not usually into remasters. It's not long into the game before you see that this is a gorgeous looking remaster that stands up to new gen graphics. Everything looks great, especially the characters armor and weapons. Even the cut scenes were touched up and reworked. It's a noticeable difference in what was already a great looking game. Maybe it's the controller but controls almost feel better here too. I found it incredibly easy to jump back in with great success even though I hadn't played Gears for some time. This game still plays great and feels really good. Though many have copied it, Gears mastered the art of stop and pop cover shooting. What really grabbed my attention was the announcement that levels only released on the PC would be included here. That's a great bonus for 360 owners like me who never got to play them. Multiplayer also returns and is as good as ever with the innovative and often copied Horde mode. Another huge bonus is the inclusion of every 360 Gears game available for download, which should be sometime before January. That's an incredible value. If I could change anything, it would be for some more destructible environments and the seemingly light weight of fallen Locust who get easily pushed around when you walk over them. This was all part of the original design so I won't fault that. It would've been nice though. As a graphical upgrade, you couldn't ask for more than this. The Coalition did a fantastic job. This is how a remaster should look.Overall, there's a ton of value here for newcomers to the series and Gears vets alike. Gears of War is still a lot of fun and thanks to this excellent remaster, it feels as fresh and exciting as when it was first released. This is a great way to get up to speed or reacquainted with the story in anticipation of Gears 4 next year. For Xbox One owners, there's no reason this shouldn't be in your library. Highly recommend.

Awesome update to a classic Xbox 360 game
Awesome update to a classic Xbox 360 game. I had a blast playing the single player. I never finished the original campaign (I didn't like third person shooters in 2008, but I gave Gears 2 a try and fell in love with the genre), so it felt completely new to me. I think they "only" managed 30 FPS and 1080p, but it definitely looks like a next-gen game. The multiplayer is locked in at 60 FPS I believe, and I think it's makes a fairly noticeable difference. I am not really a fan of 60FPS or 120/240/960(??) hz on TVs; I think the original framerate is good enough, and the super smoothness is a little distracting to me. Other than that, the multiplayer is a lot of fun, even I sometimes go 0 and 8 (yeah, I'm little more advanced that some of the AI in the game at times). Games are easy to access, and the modes are fun, they just need to add Horde mode from Gears 2 and 3. If I'm not mistaken, team deathmatch wasn't in the original gears, so if they can make the latter happen, they can make Horde mode happen (I hope they do, or we'll just wait for Gears 4 and whatever awesome co-op experience awaits there).I think the inclusion of free downloads for the original 360 games is an awesome bonus, and you get early access to Gears 4 beta next spring. Great value in one package!
