This volume in the popular Ignatius Catholic Study Bible series leads readers through a penetrating study of the books of Wisdom and Sirach using the text itself and the Church's own guidelines for understanding the Bible. Ample notes accompany each page, providing fresh insights by renowned Scripture scholars Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch as well as time-tested interpretations from the Fathers of the Church. These helpful study notes provide rich historical, cultural, geographical, and theological information pertinent to the Old Testament booksโinformation that bridges the distance between the biblical world and our own. The Ignatius Catholic Study Bible also includes Topical Essays, Word Studies, and Charts. The Topical Essays explore the major themes of the books of Wisdom and Sirach, often relating them to the teachings of the Church. The Word Studies explain the background of important biblical terms, while the Charts summarize crucial biblical information "at a glance" Review: Good i - Bought as gift. Interesting and informative Review: Great Introductions and Footnotes - The two introductions, especially the paragraphs on content and themes, are exceptional. The authors organize the content of the Wisdom of Solomon around three themes: the wisdom of God, which is a divine attribute and a divine gift; the fullest teaching on life after death in the Old Testament; and how Wisdom deepens the teaching in the Old Testament on the goodness of God. The key themes of Sirach are wisdom, torch, retribution, temple worship, prayer, and life in society. I found the topical essay (p. 96) on "Nuptial Union with Lady Wisdom through Salvation History" enlightening. The book will be a great help to clergy as they prepare their homilies.

Scott Hahn is a Catholic who was a Protestant
The Protestants like me do not accept these books a Holy Scripture but they can be useful resources, like the works of Josephus for example. But we do not believe that these books were WRITTEN BY GOD.

The product of the whisper game!
I think most people are familiar with the whisper game. A few people line up and starting with the first person, a story is whispered to them. The whisper the story to the next person and so on until the last person must tell the story as they heard it. The resulting story is usually nothing like the original! In a book that is supposedly written with some kind of divine guidance the Sirach text is questionable. Not only is the second edition, but it is "revised"! Not sure how such inspirational words can be revised but there it is. From the Greek, the Latin, the Hebrew, words get lost, altered and confused in translation (not including editing biases). So, it is no surprise to me that the Sirach text is at times confusing and unintelligible. Unfortunate. Maybe the editors need to review basic Christian philosophy.

Issues with kindle edition
Review of kindle edition. The images in this book are huge and hide the text around it. Could you please fix the issue and update the ebook?
