Another Brush with God: Further Conversations about Icons

Another Inspiring Brush with Art and Its Creator
In the title, "brush" means both an instrument for painting and an encounter with the Divine Artist. The book is both an art lesson and a heart lesson in the discipline of focused attention that calls one beyond the painful demands of ego. Just as he does in workshops, Peter Pearson leads the novice, stroke by stroke, through the painting of an icon; in this book, he teaches techniques, such as depicting multiple subjects, landscapes, figures of different lengths, and using more sophisticated methods of shading, which build upon those of the first book. An appendix offers a generous variety of cartoons for the apprentice iconographer to develop. The conversational tone and clarity keep the reader moving, brush in hand, to in-sight. Woven into the instruction are honest examples of Peter's own practice as a painter, including his mistakes, often spiced with his wry sense of humor along with his appreciation of the deep spirituality of Eastern religious traditions. The book is a perfect guide during the painting as well as an excellent reference for answering specific questions such as "what colors are needed for good skin color (sankir)?" For some, it will lead to Peter's website and on to his schedule of workshops, where one can experience the Brush with even more enjoyment. For every interested in icons, it is both informative and inspiring.

I expected more!...
Is a good book, really important information and a good guide in the iconography art, my only concern is the quality of the images, I purchased both, a brush with God and another brush with God, both of them have poor quality in terms of colors and a notable printing errors (blurry images)

great follow up to Brush with God
This is the follow up book to "Brush with God". It goes into further details in how to handle shading and other subtleties an experienced iconographer would include in her icons. A great companion to the first book and a necessity for anyone learning to write icons without having a real, live iconographer to teach you.It also has a lot more templates for icons that have a lot more details than in the first book.

iconography for Orthodox Christians
The book is easy to read and understand. It is a great resource for beginning iconographers and people interested in the subject. It flows nicely and goes over many details. It does not, however, study some of the more common icons and comment on the different meanings of their parts. It would have been nice to include that.

Every bit as good as the first one
For a person wanting to paint icons this sequel to "A Brush With God" is every bit as good as the first one, if not better. I cannot wait to start painting! Beautiful book, excellent content. Worth way more than 5 stars.
