Love this for homeschooling
I'm a homeschooler, & just recently found this series of "A Word A Day" books. I absolutely love them. My two children are fourth graders but I actually bought the Grade 2 book first, to catch them up. I was surprised to find out that my kids did not know quite a few words in this book. The layout & easy-to-understand definitions, along with the review work make this an excellent book for teaching & having them remember the new words that they've learned.

Decent word book
Some of these words are a bit beyond second grade vocabulary but that isn’t a criticism just an observation. I don’t like the exercises for each word. They are very redundant and boring.

Don't use it by listed grade level
I love this series of books because they support my ESL students' growth in a pleasant, relatable format.I do not go by the grade level on the workbook but by my testing of the students' reading levels.Sometimes I have students doing a level that is seemingly below their grade level so that theyhave the reinforcement of the word meanings and usages while being very successful; at othertimes, I have them work at reading level to push them forward. These books work well in individual tutoring, small group, and home school support situations also.
