Gripping adventure true to the genre
I was very pleasantly surprised by my first real dive into Gail Simone's output (and, apart from some Conan-related Marvel stuff, the Hyrkanian devil herself). When it arrived, I wasn't going to start reading it right away. It sucked me in, though, and I read the first part in one sitting.A character like Red Sonja requires a steady hand on both the writer's and the artist's pen. To begin with, sword-and-sorcery is a genre that is easy to overdo, and at the same time the story and action must be bold with a dashing grittiness. I definitely think the creators delivered the goods while avoiding pretty much all the pitfalls, with the major exception being that the good guys get very fond of Sonja very quickly. The writing is excellent, the art is very good. Anatomy and equipment are close to flawless. Settings are varied and ring true. Excursions into Sonja's backstory temper the pace and add depth. The characters around her are (mostly) well-rounded and often off-stereotype (but not too much, remember that the genre partly depends on stereotypes). Sonja herself is a delight: feral and principled, crude and gentle, vicious and protective; many seeming contradictions but ultimately a consistent character.

Epic - love Red Sonja
Love anything to do with Red Sonja (as well Kull, Conan etc) so I am suckered into buying this anyway. I would love to see all the Dynamite work come out in these oversized volumes as they are so much better than the individual comics (though I generally do pick them up at comic marts etc). The omnibus is full of some truly epic art and superb writing and a decent selection of bonus material (you can never have enough of that). Dynamite bring out some amazing omnibus and art editions (as well as the oddest combinations of comics on the planet ... I am still waiting for the Red Sonja vs Donald Duck or some equivalent) and I am generally always very happy with my purchases

Enjoyable
Read a few Red Sonja Graphic Novels, but even though I liked them, this is the best take on Sonja I have come across and the stories are enjoyable

Gail Simone's Red Sonja knocks it out of the park!
After reading Gail Simone's Wonder Woman story The Circle, I was eager to find more of her work and was delighted to find she'd written comics for Red Sonja. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! The book is quite large which made the comics a lot easier to read as well.Sonja has the nickname of the Devil, yet Simone has managed to show the more human side of her that allows the reader to empathize with her. She's strong but equally flawed at the same time. The art is also incredibly beautiful and the storylines are very well written.Gail Simone knocks it out of the park with her work on Red Sonja! If you like your sword-and-sorcery with no frills and a real sense of danger, I highly recommend this book!
