This was one of my favorite books as a child
This was one of my favorite books as a child, my mother still makes random references to "going once, going twice, going chicken soup with rice." I was excited to realize I could order a copy off of amazon for my own kids. I chose the hard back for durability, my kids are young. When it arrived and I opened it I discovered it was by the same author as Where the Wild Things Are, which I had somehow never realized before. The illustrations are even better than I remember them.BUTThis copy is small. The cover art is not well centered on the weird peach background. And when it arrived, instead of being instantly drawn in like they usually are with any new books, my kids were not very interested. If there is another addition or printing of this book, get that one.

This used to be my favorite book when I was a little girl
This used to be my favorite book when I was a little girl. Now that I have 3 young kids of my own, we ran across this book at the library recently and it brought back so many great memories for me! My kids loved singing through it with me so much that I knew we needed to order it once our library copy was due back. The only downside with this copy off amazon is that it was surprisingly small, but size doesn't affect how infectious this book is for children! Buy it!

A classic for a reason.
This book was a great favorite with my children, and I just bought it for a grandson of ours. The cadence and rhythm of this book is outstanding- it's a pleasure to read again and again. Maurice Sendak at his best, right up there with Where the Wild Things Are. I love the illustrations, and to top it off, this is a nice hard board book so little ones can enjoy it without ruining it. Well done!

It's the goodie at the bottom of your soup bowl!
When she was very small, this was my daughter's favorite book! Very entertaining and imaginative, and the perfect way to learn the months of the year! Reading once, reading twice, reading chicken soup with rice!So I got my dear daughter this book for nostalgia! AND I got one for my granddaughter! And one for me too...because it is very funny!

Small book
I was so excited to get this book. I remember reading this in first grade and having a chicken soup with rice party in school. The size and quality of the book was shocking. Like another rater said, it looked more like a pamphlet. I should have went with the hard cover.

Stirring Once, stirring twice, CSWR is Oh So Nice!
This is MY book! I just retired after 20 years as an elementary school librarian. I inherited this from the librarians before me. Every class we would gather, recite and do the motions one month at a time until we completed this. I simply could not keep this in stock and had to order multiple copies to satisfy my tiny patrons. Since then, I've been invited to some of the schools to relive this with former students. This book has made me a rock star in my community and I'm so grateful. This is great for introducing the months, repetition, movement, rhyming and just plain fun! Add it to your home libraries. It's a true treasure.

Its cute
I bought three of these because I remembered loving them when I was little. I don't remember the books being this small, but it is as described, so it was no shock that it was tiny. The size is fine for little hands, but would be better if it were made into a boardbook. The print is not so small that it is difficult to read. I am not sure why other reviewers have complained about that. If I knew that the "lap edition" sold would come bigger than this, I would have gotten that instead. That is why I am giving it 4 stars, because it would be better if it was bigger, since the illustrations are so great. But I think from the reviews the lap edition is the same tiny size. If you are looking for something of a normal size, this isn't for you.

Your child will know the months before they're 3.
My children loved this book. We wore it literally to pieces. I recently ordered it for my grandchild. At one time, I had the whole thing memorized. Your child will know the months of the year by the time they are 3 if you buy them this book, because they will ask you to keep reading it. And it is a whole lot better than Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

Whacky and wonderful
Do it once, do it twice, do it chicken soup with rice! I remember the animated version from my childhood and the incredibly catchy song, sung by Carol King! It's a really fun tale which takes you through each month of the year, where the characters get up to silly antics with Chicken Soup and Rice. Totally whacky and wonderful!

Love this little book. And so does my 4 year old. Great to read out loud and I'm sure he'll enjoy reading it himself before too long.

Great Book For Children
Every child should have a copy of this book. There's just something about it. It's simple, the illustrations are funny for children, and it's easy to memorize. Kids like books with cute and easy to memorize poems, it makes them feel smart!

Chicken Soup Soothes the Tummy as well as the Soul.
This is a beautiful little pocket sized book with averse for each month of the year. Chicken Soup with rice is highly recommended by my doctor to cure tummy upsets and it works! This little volume is a gift to her for the easy cure.

Beware the size...
Great book...it's just that I didn't pay attention to the dimensions. It's about the size of a postcard. Think pamphlet. It's shame as it really is a nice book with fantastic illustrations. Just don't, as I did, buy it as a gift. I know size isn't everything but I can already see the look of disappointment on my nephews face. I suppose I could disguise it in a box but that would only make things worse.
