I really like the Zoom R8. It's been many years since I worked with a multitrack recorder. My prior one was a Yamaha 4-track minidisc recorder from the late 90s. The Zoom R8 is substantially smaller and does a great job of integrating wit my PC to pull files off. I like the fact that I can easily export .wav files for backup/etc. The system is relatively small compared to my old system. Part of the space savings is because many of the old knobs (i.e., L/R fader) are in software rather than as a physical knob. The same is true for the graphiic equalizer. I miss the having the knobs, but the space savings far outweighs having the physical knob. I've also played a little bit with using effects to turn my guitar into a bass sound. For the price, it is a well constructed item.

Been fooling around with this for a few days now and seems to be a great product and sounds really good for the price. The drum beats are ok but really don’t use them much anyway. Seller shipped it quickly and came on time. Would recommend product and seller.

I bought the R8 because I wanted to record without a computer. Back in the day I recorded (for fun) with a cassette deck. Obviously this is world beyond that technology. I find that a computer can distract from creativity. The R8 is perfect for my needs. The sound quality is amazing. The onboard effects are great. I purchased a combo that came with great headphones as well. I added a set of logitech computer speakers ($20) for those times when I didn't want to use the headphones. However, I expect that a set of real monitor speakers would be much better.What I really appreciate about this unit is the ability to play against drum tracks. This has really helped my playing overall. I thought the price was a bit high before I purchased this device. However, I quickly changed my tune when I started playing through the R8. The R8 is an amazing product suitable for amateur recording. It runs on batteries or the included USB charger. It is light weight, low power, and just amazing.
