Arched gate is a challenge
The lock works as described, however if you have an arched gate, the gate will expand and contract with changes in temperature causing the height of the latch to rise or fall. This will cause the latch to bind up in the U-shaped catch. I originally thought the post had sagged, but it was solid. Took a bit to figure out what was going on, I ended up putting a turn-buckle from the gate post to the brace, so that the gate height can be adjusted with changes in the temperature.

Easily modified with a grinder/welder to be used on the inside of a "push to open" gate opener configuration.
I bought this after reading that the Mighty Mule solenoid gate lock took more force to latch closed than this one. Come to find out after installing my Might Mule gate opener, that the controls are coded to flip the latch open right as the gate is closing, then shut the latch right as the gate completely closes. This apparently new bit of code in the software make the style of latch irrelevant, but I have this one now and it works great.I did have to shoot some dry lube into the mechanism after about four months of use as it wasn't unlatching consistently but did so after lubing.I did modify this to be used in a "push to open" gate configuration. In other words my gate opener pushes the gate open from inside and I needed the mounting plate on this lock to be opposite the opening to the latch so that it would lock the gate upon closing on the inside of the gate to make it more secure. I found when I ground off the welds and took the plate off that it was relatively simple to weld in place on the backside after grinding off the finish and there were half the holes I needed in place for the mechanism, so I only had to drill a few new holes. The old holes I just covered by welding on a small steel plate. After that just flipped the guts, and put back in, and spray painted it.I did notice that it seems like this was designed to be produced in either pull to open or push to open configuration, and for some reason they stopped, or never did make them with the mounting plate on the backside. If you're trying to do the same thing as me, then you know what I'm talking about.I ran the cord through the inside of my 18' gate and it was not long enough, so I had to solder more wire onto the end of it to get through the gate and then on to the control box.

Gate/Lock still binds, 9 months later the latch no longer engages.
From reading the description I'd hope I'd finally be able to have a gate that is resistant to opening on windy days. My gate doesn't always stop in the same place and "wind creeps" enough that our dogs would get out. Despite the design, this product will still binds when the gate pushes on it too much. About 9 months later I've also noticed the latch no longer pulls back, making this worthless. I can hear the clicking sound, but it doesn't pull back. I've had to pull the pin out and go back to manually locking it on windy days. I'm tempted to purchase again as I need a solution to this and can't really find anything else that's reasonable and works.

Strength
Just put lock on. Had to use a shim on back end of lock due to way fence lines up with post. Right now using the lock mechanism built into the mighty mule opener(402). Have not figured out how to wire it with the circuit board it came with. Primary purpose is to take pressure off of arm from wind blowing in toward the driveway. Used to have a dual fence but had to redo fence and take to one gate using primary arm of mighty mule(402). Put no rating for tech support because have not had to contact them yet. Also not giving 5 stars as just like my boss says, there is always room for improvement. Will update after a little while of leaving lock in place

Very easy to install
I like that it came with all you would need to install, you provide your own screw/bolts depending on type of material being installed on. My gateopener circuit board malfunction so haven't had the chance to test long term. But it is still operational. I wish the lock circuit board had a way to attach to my opener box, I used double sided type.

Use the included control board!
My gate opener (Mighty Mule 600) came with electronic lock relays on the control board. The lock wires plugged right into the relays and everything worked...sort of. As others have stated, any pressure on the locking mechanism in the closed position will cause this lock to bind. As a result I set my gate to close very snug so there was no pressure on the locking pin. However, my gate control board only sends an "open" signal for two seconds to release the locking mechanism. Because the gate never closes "the same" every time it was sometimes a little too snug and the two second signal was not long enough for the gate to release it's tension, open, and clear the locking pin. As a result the lock would often open and close before the pin was cleared and the gate would bind up.Come to find out the included circuit board has a small dial on it to set the amount of time to open the lock. It took a bit of internet searching to figure out the wiring, but now I have a four second open phase which is perfect. It would have been greatly appreciated if the lock came with some documentation stating this, and a link to a wiring diagram for different gate openers.

Good short term purchase
Worked well for 6 years, then had to replace it.

Nice lock
Installed on a double swing Alecko 18' steel gate with ease. Hooked right up to the trigger wires and worked perfectly. These are the way to go if you want to secure your gate in high wind area's or just insure that there isn't anyone going to push through your gate.

The pin lock is to flimsy.
The gate lock is very heavy duty but the lock for the pin is very flimsy and could be easily broken.

My gates hang up
Difficult to get 2 opening gates to open without getting hung up. Very little window of opportunity to get gates to open one before the other
