Actually, I found it to be 5+ stars!!
Cain by James Byron Huggins is a superbly written, action packed, dealing with the devil story. I have read work from this author before, and I really enjoyed it. The characters had a lot of depth and were very realistic. First, when I started to read this, undead superhuman, uh, super soldier, it automatically made me think of movies that had a similar theme. But when I really got into the story, I realized that was just a theme, not the story. The story was so well put together, and Cain, though he was possessed, was a magnetic and determined character. Cain is absolutely thrilling! A definite attention grabber, so much I couldn't put it down. The thrills and intrigue is written clearly and the characterizations are engrossing. It was unpredictable (my favorite kind of story), and the fate of humanity relied on the failure of Cain. The author's technique of raw, dramatic characters and great plotlines is a gift. It's a great story to follow and try to figure out what will happen next. Wow! Cain is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author

Third book i've read from the author and all have been good.
The author does a good job of giving you enough information to make you want to keep reading without giving the plot away.

One of Huggins’ BESTS!
One of the earliest page-turning action-thrillers I’ve read in high school and it still holds up! “CAIN” works on so many levels and genres. Fans of demonic horror, military action, religious philosophy, techno-thrillers, and secret society conspiracies are in for a wild ride.

This Author will definitely keep you fully engrossed until the very end! A must read. Absolutely enthralling and riveting to the very end. Difficult to put down, no filler, just pure adrenaline surging throughout the entire read. Unbelievably entertaining and intriguing. What a wild ride.

Interesting blend of Church and Devil in an action thriller
CAIN is an exciting read, nothing less than I’ve come to expect from Huggins (I loved HUNTER). However, this book fell short in several areas. First, the author consistently demonstrated his lack of knowledge of firearms, very disappointing for this genre. Second, the creature that is Cain is a marvel of bioengineering, but his internal armor is simply not believable. And finally, knowing that Cain is indestructible when attacked in the torso and head, the protagonist (Solomon) consistently and repeatedly attacks him in exactly those locations and only those locations. Huh? How about the neck, the arms, the legs—all of which carry massive arteries, not to mention bone and muscle structures that, if destroyed, would render Cain immobile. For me, this seriously distracted from an exciting premise and plot.On the positive side, Huggins writes excellent action scenes. Plus, Solomon is an engaging character who has suffered a tremendous loss that nearly drives him beyond the point of no return. Somehow, he does manage to evade his internal demons and in the process is resurrected. This subplot truly adds to the overall story. But what I enjoyed most was the way the Catholic Church was portrayed as a silent, yet strong, ally for Solomon. We learn about the Jesuit Order, and get a rare opportunity to see Church elders more than lambs, but as wolves. This is a good read despite its weaknesses (which may not bother many readers), and I have no reservations recommending CAIN to action-thriller fans.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading it
This book is one that takes a bit of concentration to read, and you have to really pay attention to all the details. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, even though there was quite a bit of violence in it. It is a battle between good & evil, that keeps you on the edge of your seat (or it did me). I didn't want to put it down when I started, but sleep won out more than once. I could have finished it in a day, but I let it take me 2 days so I could really take it in. If you don't believe that there is a battle between good & evil, then this book may truly open your eyes. It is written as fiction, but there is a spiritual battle going on around us daily; however, in the end good will win out, because love conquers hate, light conquers darkness & good conquers evil.

Hard to put down but falls short
I liked the book. Didn't love it but it is a hard book to put down because it has an interesting story. That being said I thought some parts were not so good. The writing itself with choices of words is pretty poor. Like nobody edited the book. The story is good but just barely gets into the supernatural side. Stays technical and talks about this type of gun and knife and yada yada. It drowns the reader in this stuff when it could have delved into the supernatural side more and really made a more well rounded story. I would buy the book again and I do enjoy the author's writing.

Good story. Interesting mix of military action, occult, and religious story telling.
This could have and should have been a five star story except for some inconsistent editing and a bit more validation of some of the military-related weaponry descriptions. Interesting story about how a single soldier was called upon to save a young girl, himself, and the world from another incarnation of the devil on earth. Great story concept that was entertaining despite some of the editing shortfalls. Worth reading for certain.

Top of the tops.
Hunter and Cain from the same writer are still the absolut top stories among the Genres one can enjoy for ever and ever. I had also the book Versions but they were in threads and pieces due to many times rereading again and again.

High action
I've loved this book since I was a kid, and it's still fantastic today. The technology is obviously outdated, but that's to be expected. It's high action with interesting lore, and a villain that was perfectly creepy and evil.
