Lou Grant: The Complete Fourth Season

A joyful return to a simpler time........
What a joy to return to watching the old Lou Grant shows again, which I've been doing season by season. Back when they were on originally, before the days of easy recording, I was often teaching in the evenings, and was sad to miss about half the shows, which I watched religiously once Mary Tyler went off the air, but Ed Asner followed with his own show. The simplicity of the portrayal of newspapers then is mind-boggling, but the commitment and integrity of the reporters - especially in regard to investigative reporting - has been lost, to our detriment. These old episodes, however, concern episodes that have universal interest, still of interest today, and the acting is superb. For old fans of Lou Grant, you will especially enjoy returning to this family of likeable and annoying (Rossi!) characters, and experiencing their personal relationships and dilemmas as well as their news-related activities. For discoverers of Lou Grant for the first time, sit back and enjoy a tv series unlike any made today -- and far better than most.

Remembering when Jouralism was an Honorable Profession
Another great season of the best television show about journalism ever created. Watching it will make you weep for a time when reporters and editors actually tried to tell the truth without bias, and avoided any hint of a conflict of interest with corporate or government entities that might become the topic of stories. It's shameful how far we've come from the times depicted in this outstanding series.

Series killed too soon.
The series was excellent. Have all 5 seasons. Unfortunately, the powers that be were afraid to commit to another season for reasons they should have had no business being involved in. Typical Hollywood bureaucracy.
