This review will be in two parts. Part one is based on advertised volume in the bag and price. For a fair comparison where name brands are concerned, visit other reviews by FanTom to compare. This review is for Camerons Apple Chips. Using chips is a new venture for me. I've used chunks, and sawdust, but never chips. Why? Because the type of smoker used requires certain types of chips. Certain types for example, work better in a smoker tube. Soaking wood in water depends on the vehicle used to generate smoke. All this knowledge comes from experience. Likewise, for me, understanding volume vs. weight boggles my mind a bit. I am a weight guy. When these manufacturers of wood smoking types tell you that the bag of chips is 192 cubic inches in volume, or in this case 260 cu in in volume, I struggle to understand exactly how much I am buying for the price charged. The 5 stars above is based on the fact that they also say 260 cu in is almost 2 lbs. I ordered three different brands of various flavors. This bag was Apple. Apple, is my favorite wood to smoke with. It is mild, not harsh. But it is also the most popular. My guess is that price is dictated by the popularity. High demand, low supply, higher price. Basic economics. Of the three bags/brands I bought, this was the most expensive. For the same money spent on only 2 pounds of these chips, I can go to a certain hardware store and purchase a 40 pound bag of hardwood pellets. So, is the 5 starts really 5 stars? Am I getting a good deal or am I really getting ripped off? The reason we write reviews is to give you, the consumer, food for thought as you make your own judgments based on other people's experiences. For me, I'd put a cup of pellets in a bag and smash it with a hammer to reduce its volume to smaller pieces. But that's me.

Alder is popular in the Pacific North West, but in the Midwest we didn't enjoy it as well as Apple smoke for our Salmon. To each their own. Not getting again, just my taste.

I recently bought East Oak electric smoker, and I was in the market for a good smoking chips, that's does not blacken out the meat. Camerons All Natural Oak Wood Chips is definitely the one that has a mild flavor and gives an amazing smoke. The taste of smoking meat, is out of this world. Chips are not too big, so you can load them up in any size container in any smoker. The pack is big enough that can last you a few rounds. Highly recommend these!!
