ColumbiaGirl's First Generation Switchback Ii Jacket

Doesn't hold up
Pretty disappointed in this jacket. For Columbia being an outdoor brand I expected this to be waterproof as stated. Unfortunately, it's more like water resistant. We're an outdoors family and on our second hike in this during the rain by the end of five miles both girls shirts were wet. It was fine during sprinkles and some on and off but by the end we were stuck in a downpour and they were wet. Also, not having adjustment "ties" around the neck area it makes the coat less effective as well. So, okay for some light rain or a quick storm. Not great for the trails.

Runs generously, get normal size.
Great summer coat! I originally sized up to a medium, hoping to get longer use out of it, but I was huge. The coat runs generously, I would suggest their normal size. My daughter is a solid size 6 and the small was still big enough for us to have to roll the sleeves. She'll get a ton of use out of it!

XL fits small adult just fine!
I am fortunate in that I am a small adult (5'2", average weight) that can get away with purchasing kid's clothes when I am not looking for anything particular (like a coat I will only wear a couple times a year). This coat in an XL fit me. It was maybe a hair on the small side, but it was comfortable when zipped and mostly fit like my other youth XL coats. This coat does well for the occasional warm, rainy day where I am not planning on needing to be out in a total downpour. But it's literally just a thin layer of water resistant (NOT waterproof) fabric. I don't plan on using this coat heavily. It was a decent value for the money and I got a color that was cheaper because I am not going to use it that extensively. If you're looking for a day-to-day coat for the kiddos to take to school that'll last through the school year, I'd consider something else.

Great for very warm rainy weather conditions or windy day
I bought this despite the reviews of how paper thin this jacket is. The only reason I felt okay about the purchase is because we live in a hot, humid climate almost year round and don't need any extra insulation. During rainy season this jacket has come in handy. I can't give it 5 stars because I expect more from Columbia (everything else we own in the brand has been much higher quality) and I knocked off an additional star because, really... it feels like the company is cutting corners by making this jacket so incredibly thin. I bought this in size S for my petite 7 year old. It fits perfectly.

NOT WATERPROOF. Great lightweight rain jacket for light rain or a short time outside.
This rain coat is an adorable and lightweight rain-resistant shell. Bundle up and layer underneath for warmth.I took my toddler out for a 1-hour walk/hike in medium rain and found out that the jacket is NOT WATERPROOF. There was substantial leakage; his clothes underneath were spotted with dampness, particularly at the shoulder and seams. If we had been out for longer, he would have gotten very wet.I applied a fabric waterproofing spray, and the coat still leaked at the seams. Then I tried a seam sealer (for outdoor apparel, camping gear, etc.), and that seems to have worked. I'll come back here to update whether or not the seam sealer and waterproofing spray don't hold up for one season of rain.At this point, what should have been an affordable raincoat from a brand that I had trusted is now turning out to be an expensive purchase and time consuming waterproofing project. :\ C'mon, Columbia, if you're going to write "waterproof" in the product description, it should be actually waterproof!

Thin, too small
This item is not much more than a poncho, and the M, which is advertised as size 10/12, barely went onto my 9 year old, who still comfortably fits in size 8 clothing.

Size UP
The jacket is cute, really thin though just 1 layer (the water resistant layer), and EXTREMELY SMALL. We went with the size chart which said size 5 for toddlers would be an XX-SMALL but it’s literally the size for a 2T child not 5T. Planning on returning this. I might order it in a bigger size.

Perfect
Comfortable, lightweight rain jacket for my toddler. I like how the hood actually stays on her head, unlike other jackets she has had in the past. Definitely water resistant - she stayed completely dry underneath the jacket. Very pleased with this purchase.
