Excellent Pour-Over Coffee Maker
I ordered this mainly based on the good Bodum name and their reputation, and I wasn't disappointed. Pour-over coffee is the easiest and best tasting in my opinion, and this is perfect for making large batches. I was interested in the large 51oz size since it will fill my Yeti coffee mug plus fill two more servings into my thermos to go. PRO: - LOTS of coffee with very little effort. - Simplicity to use and simplicity to clean, whether you wash by hand or in the dish washer. - Lives up to the Bodum reputation. CON: - The large glass container is obviously subject to damage so you have to be careful with it during use and cleaning. - Glass is a poor insulator so you need to have a plan to use all 51oz immediately ... the coffee will cool down fairly quick. Mine goes straight into my thermos, so no problem. Of course, you could also just make less coffee.......

It's a great coffee maker!
I was recommended this coffee-maker by a family member and I love it. If you easily have the convenience of an electric kettle to heat up your water, this is a great option for you. The first big plus for me is that it eliminates the need for paper filters. And then it's also really modern looking so it just looks nicer sitting on the counter than a traditional coffee-maker, and it takes up barely any space. It is once whole piece, but it is still easily cleanable. I personally can still fit my hand through with a sponge, but a brush will easily work as well if your hand can't fit. The rubber piece comes off if you want also, it's there to protect your hand from the heat. It makes enough coffee for my fiance and I to both fill up our huge, over-sized mugs, and it certainly doesn't take any longer than a regular coffee maker. It comes with a little insert for once the coffee is done dripping so that you can remove the filter out of the top and easily pour as desired.

Simple & perfect!
This is the easiest way to make coffee short of boiling it over a campfire, and it tastes a lot better! Honestly, what is there to say about something so simple? No moving parts, easy to clean, versatile, and the coffee is very smooth and low-acidity. This is my favorite way to make coffee, and this carafe works great.

Should have bought the chemex.
We purchased the Bodum Pour Over Coffee maker when our Chemex was attacked by a four year old. The though process was: "Save a little bit of money for the same great tasting pour over!" Unfortunately, its not the same great tasting pour over. The chemex filters create a drip from a singular point. This drip is the secret to magnificent coffee. The hole in the Bodum pour over is to large to use chemex filters (unless you stand and hold the filter from falling). The result of the Bodum system is a slightly worse coffee than is produced from a standard drip (Mr. Coffee, etc). We've tried standard, high quality and excellent coffee in this pot - all of them slightly better than a Keurig. You're reading this because you want to know if its worth the risk of saving 10-15 bucks. IT IS NOT WORTH THE RISK. And lets face it, the chemex is sexy. It looks good and produces excellent coffee. Should have bought the chemex.

Excellent coffee maker, very well made.
Bought this to replace my kurig and I wanted something larger than my Aeropress to Brew my coffee. The glass is strong and well made, easy to clean with a long brush or bottle brush. The included metal mesh filter works well with even finely ground coffee and is also easy to clean. It's holding up very well. I like that the metal filter saved on having to buy paper filters, reduces waste and best of all allows the oil in the coffee to pass through for a better taste. This brewer looks great on the counter and is very attractive. Definatly a better way to brew your coffee.

Takes the bitterness out but uses a little more coffee
I've been using the Thermos French Press for a few years now. My kids have mentioned my coffee tasting bitter, so I've been pondering pour over systems for a while. I finally settled on the 51 oz. Bodum, with the reusable stainless filter screen. I quickly embraced the new process for making coffee, and the flavor was quite satisfying - I immediately noticed a smoother flavor, less bitterness. I was hoping the fine filter screen would eliminate the sludge at the bottom of my cup, but this was not the case (I use espresso coffee, and I guess that fine grind can still slip through). This is where these cloth filters came into my life, into my coffee journey, if you will. I really liked the idea of using cloth, as my kitchen is almost entirely paper free. I trusted the reviews and took the leap. I love these filters! The coffee runs through quickly, the flavor of my coffee is sooo smooth and satisfying, and there is no sludge in my cup! However, through trying several different methods, I've come to a hybrid of sorts. I felt the coffee from the pour over method was lacking the strength of the French Press, and I was having to use more coffee to make up for that. My thinking was that the water ran through the ground coffee too quickly, not giving it time to steepand extract maximum flavor. I now slow the process down by using the French Press, and then sifting the pressed coffee through the cloth filters into the Bodum to remove the very fine particles. My coffee is now perfect every time! Clean up isn't too tough, as I typically only rinse the carafe. When it needs cleaning, that's a little tougher to do, as my hand doesn't fit in the narrow neck. I used salt and ice the last time, swirling it round and round, but it didn't remove all the residue, as I didn't have the patience or desire to do a super thorough job. None of the scrubbing brushes I have on hand can easily reach the sides of the bottom, but I suppose a long fork to move a dish cloth around the bottom would work, if I felt it was necessary. It's just me, and I'm fine with rinsing and getting on with my coffee drinking! I do have to say I wish the stainless filter screen wasn't reinforced with plastic. I don't like hot beverages or food to come in contact with plastic. That being said, the filter is very easy to clean. I've never had any tiny coffee particles get stuck, and it just rinses clean. I'm attaching a video (attempting to, anyway) which shows the intended use of the Bodum, with a reusable cloth filter. You can see the speed of the coffee running into the carafe. If you've ever tried the pour over method using drip coffee filters, you know that it drips through at a snail's pace, leaving you wondering if you'll get a sip of coffee before dinner. This is not the case with the Bodum, and also not with the added reusable cloth filters, as you can see. Enjoy your coffee!

Makes a nice cup of coffee. A stronger brew can be achieved by using a paper filter as it slows down the flow of water. It is also easier to clean.

Proper coffee ready in same time it takes to make instant. Very stylish.

Large coffee pot and filter. Nice to brew coffee at the strength I like, very strong. Pretty sitting on the counter and easy to clean. Replaced my dusty old coffee machine that didn’t clean well.

Nice carafe. Looks good. Price was decent. No point in getting any version smaller than the 51 ounce (makes about 4 real cups of coffee. ) Once you have your grind dialed in and the amounts, you're off to the races. And, it does taste good. Only real issue is that the carafe isn't insulated so if you don't transfer to an insulated carafe it'll get cold fairly quickly. But, pouring is easy, washing is easy. Looks nice on the shelf.
