Spanning the time period from 750 CE to the present day, Inquiry-Based Lessons in World History (Vol. 2) focuses on creating global connections between people and places using primary sources in standards-based lessons. With sections on the world in transition, the era of revolutions, imperialism and global war, and the modern world, this book provides teachers with inquiry-based, ready-to-use lessons that can be adapted to any classroom and that encourage students to take part in the learning process by reading and thinking like historians. Each section contains chapters that correspond to the scope and sequence of most world history textbooks. Each inquiry lesson begins with an essential question and connections to content and literacy standards, followed by primary source excerpts or links to those sources. Lessons include step-by-step directions, incorporate a variety of literacy strategies, and require students to make a hypothesis using evidence from the texts they have read. Excellent!
This book is the 2nd volume of "Inquiry-Based Lessons in World History" and maybe even better than the first volume. The lesson plans have everything you need for “stand alone” lessons: historical information for the teacher; a lesson hook, key questions to provoke thought, primary sources and links to all the resources needed, and creative instructional ideas. Or, teachers can pick and choose from the activities and primary sources to add to existing units and lessons. The content really is world-history focused with lessons on government, economic and political revolutions, industrialism, and human rights – all the topics addressed in typical social studies courses. The Post 9/11 lessons are especially helpful since typical textbooks never get that far into the present era. And, the lessons are aligned to Common Core literacy standards. I’m a former high school and middle school teacher and currently a teacher-educator and I would recommend to all my pre-service and in-service teachers.

Every social studies teacher needs this resource!
As both a social studies teacher and gifted and talented coordinator, Inquiry-Based Lessons in World History is an incredible resource for teachers! The books are great for both the first year teacher and the veteran teacher because there are step-by-step lessons which you can use in their entirety or you can pick and choose the aspects of the lesson that work best for your teaching style. I personally love the lesson hooks and the variety of inquiry-based strategies that are provided for each lesson. As a gifted and talented coordinator, I would recommend this for elementary teachers looking for above-level text and a way to challenge your advanced learners. Don’t be fooled by the label “Grades 7-10” since these books can be easily used by grades 6th through 12th. I’m so excited about this resource and can’t wait for the upcoming school year to implement these lessons in my classroom.

Finally!
This book is awesome for high school students and their teachers who spend countless hours trying to find primary source documents to use in the classroom. I have used History Alive and Reading Like A Historian, but this is my new favorite! You won't be disappointed with this book. I have Volume 1 and Volume 2 - both are excellent. I recommend this book to any Social Studies teacher who is looking to use more literacy strategies in their class. I also recommend this to any Language Arts teacher as well. I love the way these activities force the students to analyze and support in a fun and engaging manner.

Best Strategies out there!!!
Outstanding details! I loved the primary sources and strategies for teaching. The best part is the learner is in the drivers seat, posing ideas and questions, while engaging in-depth content. I highly recommend due to the rigor and higher order thinking involved.

Not what I expected
There isn’t anything wrong with this book. It’s a fine resource for a World History teacher, it’s just not what I had expected. I had expected this to be more creative and innovative inquiry-based lessons when in reality each lesson simply has students use some reading strategy to read primary sources and make a claim. Again, this is totally fine, just not what I had hoped for. Additionally, many of the primary sources (especially maps and cartoons) are not included but rather are accessible via a url printed in the book which just irked me. Overall, not a bad resource, but I didn’t think it was worth the price.
