Cold Steel Axe Gang Hatchet, One Size

Hurricane Halene brought down 4 large, mature pecan trees. I used a chainsaw for large cuts andthis Cold Steel axe is my go to for limbing. And frequently for chopping. Pecan is a very hard wood. This axe cuts through 4 inch limbs with one pass. It hold is blade. It’s made to use.This is the sharpest and most versatile axe I’ve found, and I’m not looking anymore.

I recently acquired this hatchet that boasts impressive sharpness, surpassing my expectations in terms of its cutting power. Notably, this hatchet stands out as it is slightly longer than the well-known hatchet wielded by Rick Grimes. The extended length provides an added advantage when it comes to reach and leverage, enabling efficient and effective use.One of the few drawbacks I noticed, however, is its overall length. While the extended size has its benefits, I found myself contemplating whether some minor adjustments to trim it down would enhance its usability. A slightly shorter length could offer improved maneuverability and control, especially in tight spaces or when performing intricate tasks.Nevertheless, I must emphasize that the sharpness of this hatchet is truly remarkable. It effortlessly cuts through various materials, making it a reliable tool for outdoor enthusiasts, campers, and those engaged in woodwork or survival activities. The cutting edge maintains its keenness over time, ensuring consistent performance during repeated use.In terms of durability, the hatchet exhibits resilience, standing up well to rigorous tasks and demanding conditions. The handle provides a comfortable grip, minimizing hand fatigue and enhancing safety during prolonged use.In summary, this hatchet impresses with its exceptional sharpness and commendable length, reminiscent of Rick Grimes' iconic tool. However, the option to make minor adjustments to trim its length would undoubtedly enhance its versatility and maneuverability. Despite this minor consideration, it remains a highly capable hatchet that excels in various applications.

I am probably the only person to buy this for anything other than throwing. I bought this to use as an actual hatchet.I like the longer handle with the small head. It gives you a lighter weight with out sacrificing much swing power. The longer handle allows you to swing harder than it’s head weight would let on.The steel is decently hard. It stood up to chopping dry pine limbs without denting or rolling over. I removed the black enamel and the grind marks on the head are uniform.The handle grain was offset about 45 degrees from the bit. Acceptable for the price. Once the finish was removed and oiled, it became a nice handle for long use. I did rough up the area I hold to make up for the lack of fawns foot. I do the same with my tomahawks to great effect. The oval shape feels good in the hand and does not allow it to twist in your hand.The bit it quite thin. While it does stick into the wood more due to that, I prefer deep cutting hatchets. The long handle does make it more difficult to do single handed light cuts, but having more power in the swing makes up for it.My only gripe is the size of the eye. It is rather small and I worried it may not hold up long, but it has handled a few overstrikes without damage. My fear may have been unfounded.Overall, if you want an axe that splits the difference between a hatchet and boys axe, this is the ticket. Light enough to carry all day but heavy enough to cut whatever you come across cruising the wood lot. Would highly recommend.

I'm a Cold Steel fan and this is a great axe for camping. Not too big so it doesn't take up too much space or weigh too much. Not too small so it's easy to swing and handles bigger logs. The only thing I don't like? It doesn't come with a guard or is one available for purchase. Still a keeper.

I love this axe for throwing. It did arrive pretty dull but 15 minutes with a whetstone took care of that and it’s held the edge well.The handle is too long for competition or practicality as a thrower, but I cut it down to 16” and will be buying another 2 of these very soon.

If you want a small ax, that can bust up little pieces of wood, this is the one. It is perfect for a short term camping trip. It is also perfect for cutting small limbs from a tree if you are pruning.It is compact but still practical. It’s RAZOR sharp out of the box. It does not have a cover or holster of any sort. I will be making a cover out of kydex (thermo plastic). Good purchase.

There was no edge on the blade what so ever. It came coated in a lacquer sand I figured that it was protecting the edge, but there was no edge after I removed the sealant. So dull I'd let my 8 year old play with it

Bought a couple to make an ace throwing range for our last party. It was definitely the hit of the party for kids and adults.
