Read if you are concerned with chipped corners.
I have used this stone for several years now and it continues to work flawlessly. I constantly get a mirror finish on the blade of my knives and it seems to be adequate for years more in terms of how much stone I have left. When it comes to the subject of CHIPPED CORNERS, I did have a small chip in the corner of mine. I considered making this a four star review, however after reading some of the other reviews here and the fact that I am not a giant man baby who felt the need to kick his feet and put in a 1 star review as I don't seem to understand how these stones work or how to level one or how to write an ACCURATE review, I went ahead and gave it the full five stars to compensate for general lack of intelligence or normal emotional regulation amongst my so alleged peers.I hope this honest review can help someone trying to just decide what to buy and apologize if I added a bit of ego to the mix but it seems this is the trend here. I tried to include useful information as well.

No problems, performs as expected
I primarily use this Naniwa 1000/3000 stone for sharpening my cheap yanagiba sashimi knife. I prefer the "toothy" edge from sharpening with diamond stones with other knives. The stone arrived in great shape with a plastic base. I did flatten both sides on a diamond stone before using it. There's not much else to say except that it does what it is supposed to and helps me to get a fairly polished edge for cutting fish cleanly.

You're almost guaranteed to get it chipped/broken!
Although it was shipped with air pillows for cushioning, they do nothing to protect these very fragile stones when the air pillows are just laid on top. My whetstones came with a 1 inch piece that broke off from one corner. Although it may not seem like much, once you start sharpening, you'll find that the blade catches on the corner, which causes a potentially very dangerous interruption in the sharpening motion. The quality of the stones themselves are average. They get the job done, just not as efficiently as others I have used. If you could get these without damage done to them in the shipping process, then they're ok.

Worth the money, gets the job done.
This is an effective sharpening stone, with it I can put a razor edge on my Benchmade knife. It's a good option if you don't want to spend $200 on a series of different stones. It's not ideal, if I had another rougher grit stone it would speed up the process, and a very high grit stone would be nice to put on that mirror finish. With that said, it's not really worth the cost and this is all most people really need. It did arrive beat up on the edges as others have mentioned. The packaging is flawed and the stone knocks back and forth on the holder during shipment. Be careful using it, the material is somewhat soft and your blade will dig in if you don't hold the right angle. Also, it can slide on a table if you use a lot of pressure so be careful!

Great Stones
I use them often. They have held up great. The knives get sharp and we have avoided any cupping. No complaints.

Terrible
I took a gamble despite many reviews indicating broken corners. Two corners are chipped. Terrible purchase.

great company, great stone
the price was right, the stone didn't disappoint, and the company reached out and remedied a situation they were aware of and I couldn't be more impressed with how they went about doing it.I'll get my next stones from them for sure.
