OXO SUMO ZYLISS GOOD COOK
Besides this Good Cook Smart Scoop I also own three other ice cream scoops and they are all excellent scoops. The OXO Stainless Steel; the SUMO Stainless Steel; and the Zyliss Ice Cream Scoop. The SUMO and OXO scoops are identical except for the colour of the handle. They both are heavy due to a very thick solid stainless steel construction that will last your entire lifetime. The Zylis is equally just as well made and is just as heavy and has a Non Stick coating. The Zyliss has a little more leverage than the SUMO or OXO due to it’s unique head design and the fact that all the weight is right in the head and not in the handle. This Good Cook Smart Scoop is actually the second one I have owned. My first one disappeared during a recent move. It will gouge out a large portion of ice cream with a rounded portion on the top regardless of how hard the ice cream is. You can’t see it in the photo but the head is actually tilted back away from the handles 10 or 15 degrees and the rim of the scoop itself is not perfectly round but is con-caved on the sides like all the other scoops are and the handles are more than one inch wide. All these features add more leverage power when using this scoop. It’s mechanically spring loaded to stay open and you must squeeze the two handles together in order to scoop the ice cream. To most this will never be a problem but may be challenging for others with physical impairments. When you go to an ice cream parlour all the ice cream being served is actually in a controlled display freezer with the temperature set for maximum scooping ability and thats how they get such nice looking scoops for the cones. All four of these scoops will form a beautiful round scoops of ice cream to perfection if the ice cream is “less frozen” like the ice cream is at the ice cream parlours. Unfortunately though the reality is THE ICE CREAM WE ALL USE AT HOME COMES STRAIGHT FROM THE FREEZER AND IS ALWAYS FROZEN SOLID HARD.This reality changes everything when it comes to choosing a quality ice cream scoop for home use and these four scoops are up to the task involved. I personally just put the container of ice cream in the fridge with the lid off for about an hour before serving and it’s perfect to scoop and I immediately refreeze it as soon as I’m done. You will get Perfect Scoops every time regardless of what scoop you are using. Do not heat the scoop with hot water or dip it in water before using. This could contaminate your ice cream and has the potential to cause severe health conditions. If you bake cookies there is a bonus with the GOOD COOK SMART SCOOP. I use my Good Cook Smart Scoop to form 3 Tablespoon Size Scoops of cold cookie dough. The cookies are large in diameter about 3.75 to 4 inches and 3/8th inches thick. The size you get is pending on how much you initially flatten them down with a fork. This size produces cookies that are always moist and are similar in size to what you buy at most bakeries. Just flatten the cold cookie dough down with a fork dipped in water first and then into white sugar. Try to get them all the same thickness about 3/8th inches thick. I have tried all the normal ice cream scoops and best cookie scoops with those squeeze levers for handles, and everyone of them broke with in a few minutes of use. This scoop cuts through the cold dough with ease. This Good Cook scoop is made of cast aluminum and is lighter in weight than the other three but it will never break. I lightly oil the inside of the scoop with vegetable oil before forming each cookie and I always pack the cold dough into the scoop and it still release the dough perfectly every time. I also use it to scoop and form steamed rice balls and mashed potatoes balls for certain meals. The Good Cook Smart Scoop and the Zyliss Scoop CAN NOT go in the dishwasher because both have a non stick coating that will eventually start to peel or flake making them unsafe to use. The OXO and SUMO on the other hand are dishwasher safe but the handle colour will fade with in a few washings. Two are dishwasher safe and two are not. Any one of these four ice cream scoops will do a great job and I positively guarantee that regardless of the one you choose you simply will not be disappointed when you use it. They are all quality ice cream scoops and I recommend them all.

Great scoop, does what it says--well.
This Good Cook smart ice cream scoop is excellent. Very well engineered, creatively so, and it works exactly as described. A nice-size, round scoop is formed and then when you release the handles, it pops out of there every time. It seems to be a well-made, all metal item, and on the package it says that it isn't dishwasher safe, which is fine with me. That may have to do with the fact that everything in it, including a spring, is metal. This one's a winner.I bought this at the same time as buying the Oxo Good Grips and Sumo scoops, and these latter two are essentially identical, also working wonderfully. But, they produce much smaller and nonround scoops of ice cream versus this one by Good Cook. They also don't release the ice cream quite as easily, though, in most cases, easily enough, and they are both excellent products. I just think this one is even better, and unquestionably preferable if you desire larger, traditionally-sized, round scoops, though they're probably not quite so big as traditional scoops of ice cream at an ice cream shop.I have also tried various versions of the traditional round scoops with the little, narrow, bendable piece inside the scoop that moves at the touch of a button in order to release the ice cream, and every one of these has been made very cheaply, no matter the price, and that inside piece has fallen out on the first or second use. It is not meant to be in there permanently, you can remove it yourself very easily just by pushing on one end of it through its mounting hole. Avoid those at all costs. Buy this one!

Scoop me up!!!
I love this scooper! Usually, I buy the ones without the squeezable handles, and it was kind of hard to complete a scoop.Plus, without the squeezable handle, you just have to smashed it down, and hopefully, the scoop will come out.Or you might have to dig it with your fingers. The result would be a messy incomplete cone. This scooper, with the squeezable handle, makes its so simple. It almost forms a perfect scoop. (Depends on your technique and practice)Release the handle to make it an ice cream cone that you would actually get from the store. This scooper is dishwashable, and it hasn't corroded yet. Get one today because it's cheaper now!! I paid 2 dollars more than the current price!!I have purchased this item, personally for me, at the full retail price. There'sno relationship with the seller or the company of this product. Absolutelythere's zero compensation involved for my review. I am solely reviewing myexperience for other potential customers.

Awesome scoop
Good because1. Great design makes it very easy for ice cream to separate from scoop without the use of ANY other implement or fingers.3. Non-stick coating ensures that minimal (if any) ice cream will stick to scoop.3. Perfect for making 'even' ice cream cones (i.e., three scoops on top in a row that don't fall apart.)2. Durable. Design lacks small parts that can be bent, pushed apart, lost, or broken which have impaired functionality in other models I owned (i.e., it makes scoops fall out easily without that 'wire' that enables ice cream to leave the scoop which break relatively easily. Not a five star because: Not dishwasher safe (non-stick coating will come off)I ordered this scoop for my husband when our old OXO broke. Picked it out because it was very similar to one that my parents have and I have always loved. Even though it is slightly more expensive than other scoops, the style and efficacy of this scoop definitely outweigh the higher cause. for those who eat ice cream (especially ice cream cones) regularly, this is this is your scoop. And not being able to wash in the dishwasher is not a big deal because my husband eats ice cream everyday, but we only run the dishwasher approximately 2 timesweek.
