Wide calf, small foot... Kind of disappointed.
I will start off by saying that I think these boots are really well made. The quality exceptional and they are super cute! I ordered them from a vegan clothing store through Amazon called Alternative Outfitters. Great concept! With that said...I ordered these specifically because they said they had a small calf measurement. I have attached photos so you can see that it is not the case. I suppose I have a small calf at 13"... but I have boots that did not claim to be small around the calf and they fit MUCH more snugly. And the buckle doesn't help. It just makes the pleather look strange.ALSO...The foot is tiny. My size 7 *just* fits! I have to wear very thin socks with them in order for to fit comfortably.Nice boot, but I was hoping for perfect and got just "meh". I wouldn't have bought them if I tried them on in the store.

I wouldn't take them if they were free
These boots are spectacularly cute, however there are (2) significant flaws. I will start with the fact that I waited almost 2 years before buying them, despite having them on my "wish list" because I was not comfortable paying $60 for something that I could not touch or try on prior to purchasing them. So I waited until the price came down and I am most relieved that I did. As previously mentioned, there are (2) major problems. I had worn them only 10 or 12 times before I noticed the back-most area of the heel was already wearing down and, in fact, both had already developed small holes. I plan to fill the holes with a flexible compound. I was not thrilled, however to see that with so little use, this was happening. Having said that, I do walk a lot...more than most in these boots, I'm sure. The second issue is the top buckle placement. I frequently crossed my legs and these buckles are ill-placed; right on the top and side of the knee cap of the leg on which they rest. They leave deep marks on the opposing leg and its not very comfortable to sit cross-legged for any length of time.I do not feel that $60-70 is an appropriate price for these boots, however $30-$40 would be more reasonable. Its still the beginning of November...I began wearing these in September. The sole at BOTH heels is no completely open to show the inadequate, hollow and very poor construction. They now allow water into the boot (previously I had to use my marine silicone to line around the seam where the shoe meets with the sole). In addition, the man-made leather is now bubbling and peeling at the point where my foot bends. And yesterday they gave me a blister on the back of my left ankle becuase they are falling apart and exposing the inner seam.To answer those questions hanging in the air...1. I am not a heavy individual. I'm quite fit, so there is no "unusal" stress on these shoes.2. I am not using them recreationally (hiking, etc). I just go to work and walk to get coffee on my weekends. Remember I also said in an earlier review...I work in an office. In a chair.3. ITS ONLY BEEN 2 MONTHS!!!Why are they falling apart? Now I have to buy another pair. Seriously. I live in the Pacific Northwest. Its wet. Boots are just a necessity.

Only slightly small IMO
I didn't find these to run so radically small, as some of the reviews suggest. I'm between a 9-9.5 and the size 9 fits fine, though I probably won't wear extremely thick socks with them. (I have only tried them on; I haven't attempted to wear them all day and all night. Your mileage may vary.)The material is of good quality for an animal-friendly "leather." The last few pairs of boots I've bought have been a lot thinner and flimsier, so I thought to myself, "they don't make 'em like they used to." Well, these appear as well made as they used to do. I'm happy with the value and construction.Note these have much more of a motorcycle/engineer style vs. a riding boot style, at least in black. In other words they're on the edgy side. Definitely for casual wear. They're not exactly going to pair well with your pencil skirts or sheath dresses. Unless you're into that sort of thing, in which case, carry on.

Nicely Made but Calf is at Least 15 Inches
Like some of you, I was disappointed with the width of the calf because this is advertised as a boot for those with narrow calves. But I ordered them anyway because I intended to wear them with jeans and leggings. My calf is exactly 14 inches so I figured even a 15 inch circumference (as someone suggested the width was a more likely size for this boot) should be okay since I was wearing it with clothing. Well I tried the boots on with my wide legged jeans and they are not fitted as much as I like, which means that with leggings they will definitely be roomy in the calf. I also agree with someone who commented that they seemed a bit baggy in the ankle. They do not look at all sexy on me, as I hoped they would. If a narrow calf circumference is important to you and you have a 14" calf or smaller, don't order these boots. The only reason I will not send these back is that they were only $20. For a $20 boot that is not leather, they are actually made pretty well and look pretty nice. The person who said they were "cheap and crappy" was being way too critical. They are cute, but the calf width is the same as most of the other boots out there. The reviewer who said these boots would only fit someone with a really skinny calf must have really, really large calves to think this calf size is narrow. Again, I'm going to venture that the calf circumference of this boot is at least 15 inches.

Perfect!
I ordered at least 8 different boots trying to find the perfect one and this is it! It's comfy and super cute. The cuff fits perfectly against my calf without using the expanding zipper. I struggled to find a boot with the perfect circumference without being too tight or too wide. I've stepped in a number of rainy puddles with these so far and they hold up great. So happy I bought them!
