Tomlyn Immune Support Daily L-Lysine Supplement, Fish-Flavored Lysine Powder for Cats and Kittens, 3.5oz

I purchased this as a replacement for another brand (Viralys) that I had been getting through my vet. One of our kitties had a "cold" when we adopted her. That "cold" just wouldn't clear up. She had a weepy eye and sneezles for weeks. When we took her to the vet, the vet said it was kitty herpes and prescribed the Viralys (at $30 a container). It's l-lysine in powder form; you sprinkle it on the cat food. There is no cure for feline herpes, but l-lysine helps clear up the symptoms. (For those who want to know how l-lysine helps, The Cat Doctor & Friends in Santa Clarita says, "We use L-Lysine to fool your cat's herpes virus into self-destructing by using L-Lysine, instead of another amino acid Arginine, when making new copies of itself. This decreases the amount of herpes virus in your cat's body and hopefully eliminates clinical signs such as sneezing or squinting one eye and reddish brown discharge. Green or yellow discharge from your cat's eye or nose is probably not feline herpes and deserves a veterinary visit.") The Viralys l-lysine powder not only worked great, clearing up the weepy eye and drippy nose within a remarkably short amount of time, it was also loved by all our kitties. (The vet said it wouldn't hurt any of them to eat it.) However, at $30 a container, and with the stupid mistake I made that wasted half a container (see below), I wanted to find a less expensive alternative. And I did. This product, the Tomlyn Scientifics l-lysine, seems to be identical to the Viralys, and costs half what my vet was charging me. My one concern was whether it would taste as good to the kitties, and it does indeed seem to. == My Stupid Mistake and How You Can Avoid It == When I first got the Viralys from my vet, I made a stupid mistake. I used the little scoop that comes with the powder to sprinkle the lysine powder on the cat food, and then I used the scoop to stir the powder into the food. Then I returned the scoop to the container. Those of you who are familiar with good sanitation practices will be able to predict what happened next: after a while, the tiny crumbs of cat food I had inadvertently transferred to the container gave birth to new life. In a few weeks, I saw suspicious little clumps and balls in the powder. I threw out the rest of the powder rather than risk making my kitties sick. After thinking about what I could do to prevent wasting my kitties' medicine (and my money), I realized the solution: put the powder into a shaker container so it never gets contaminated. After shopping around, I purchased the Kaiser Bakeware La Forme Select Sugar/Spice Shaker Set (available here on Amazon), which is just the right size for the powder. I'm using the shaker lid with the largest holes. Now all is well.

This worked amazingly for my kitten!! She was constantly drooling, had a lot of boogers all the time, and her gums/lips looked super irritated . I used this for about a week and it all went away, she is doing so much better now and she hasnt been drooling or getting any boogers at all. I was so worried but im so glad i trusted this product and now she is all better.

I have an aging cat and her eyes "drool" brown tears. As a former feral cat, she gets a bit snarfy when I try to wipe her eyes and then thrashes her head around, as cats will do. Now I rarely have to do that. And she sneezes much less often. (Her condition does not respond to antibiotics, so it is not bacterial in nature). I add the directed amount of L-Lysine to about one ounce of canned food twice a day and now her eyes are about 90 - 95% tear free. Only took about a day to see results, as I recall. Another of my cat family has chronic ulcers on his tongue and gums and my Vet wanted to treat him with steroids. I thought I'd try treating him with L-Lysine first, since with his disposition, steroid pills or injections would be extremely difficult to administer. And not good for him long term. To keep my other two cats from stealing the wet food with the L-Lysine, I decided to serve it to all 4 cats. Not one has given the slightest indication that he/she knows that the food has "additives" in it. I have used a wide variety of flavors of a couple of popular brands of the 6.5 sized canned food. Seems that every flavor masks the mild flavor of the L-Lysine, or could be they like the flavor! So I've been using this jar for exactly one month for 4 cats, using 4 rounded scoops twice a day as per package directions. There is still a little left. So if you are treating just one cat, I suspect this jar/container should last about 4 months. Worth the price if it helps. (I haven't had the vet check the cat's mouth yet, but he seems less unhappy. (The cat, not the Vet!) This cat is rather crabby by nature and WILL NOT let me look in his mouth, or even pick him up and I have the scars to prove it! :) However, judging by his behavior, I believe his condition has improved, but I'm fairly certain he still has some ulcers. Can't say I would recommend it for mouth ulcers, but I would recommend this for a cat with teary eyes or runny nose issues not bacterial in nature and not responding to antibiotics.

A cat of mine was originally a stray and has respiratory issues that flare up every few months. Bad bouts come around every so often and my go to cure was always crushing up a L-Lysine supplement tablet with a pestle and mortar and mixing it into the wet food. It works great. Now obviously a human supplement goes a long way with a cat but still, I didn't have a way of knowing just how much the cat was getting. I erred on the side of a bigger dose during bad bouts, but was always worried about "how much is too much". And I also wanted to start doing a regular regimen in hopes of extending the time between bouts but was worried about keeping the dose consistent. I had hoped this product would solve my issues; I'd know how much was the "right" amount to give during bad bouts, and I could give a consistent amount regularly when the cat was healthy. It worked as far as a regular regimen is concerned. And I do believe it helped stave off bad bouts longer than normal. But when the next bad bout came it didn't seem up to task. The worst of it began to last longer than normal. I tried increasing the dosage but the cat's appetite was already struggling at that point and it wasn't getting it all. So I switched back to the crushed supplement pill to kick start things, which worked. The supplement pill powder is finer and more concentrated (and if you wanna pinch pennies, infinitely more cost effective). So when things are at their worst, it just works better in my particular situation. That said, I do think that this stuff used regularly helps. A lot. And I will continue to use it. But it just doesn't have that 'punch' when things get bad. Time will tell but if this stuff is doing what I think it is, then this cat will only have two or three bad bouts a year rather than four or more. And that is more than worth it.

GREAT!! Having tried other brands, this is my number #1 choice when I have sick, feral cats in my colonies. I feed close to 27, TNR'd cats in multiple locations & when they show up w weepy eyes, sneezing &/or signs of upper respiratory distress, I mix this in w wet food, adding a little warm water. The results have been amazing! Usually, I see results after the 2nd feeding. I just had a very sick male, I think he may have FIV but a URI was hitting him hard, he had stopped eating because he couldn't smell through the nose congestion.. I used sardines mixed w canned, tuna cat food & a little warm water w this Lysine mixed in.. he was in bad shape but the smell was enough to trigger him to eat & by day 3, he was remarkably improved, he's almost back to himself again. -- For feral colonies, this is perfect to help their immune systems! Not much is used each time so it lasts a while, a good value for the price. -- I use it regularly now for all the outdoor cats, I do recommend adding it to wet food w a little water so it dissolves. Trust me, this stuff is great for URI & weepy eye issues!

One of our rescued feral cats had a watery/running eye for a couple of years. At our vet's suggestion, we purchased this. After about a week we noticed a great improvement. A short time after that, the problem was about 95% gone. We mix it every day into her teaspoonful "treat" of tuna in oil. She loves it. We notice a bit of watering now and again, but hardly ever. UPDATE: Another of our feral cats would vomit daily at least once. It wasn't regurgitation of recently-eaten food, but dark thick liquid. Pattern was that she'd let out a chilling screech/yowl, vomit once, walk a few steps and vomit a smaller amount. After two years of changing food, water, etc., with no luck, the vet diagnosed it as probably being an auto-immune issue and prescribed Prednisone from a compounding pharmacy put in her food daily. It worked for a couple years but she built up a tolerance. The vet would give her a Kenalog shot about every two months, and that worked but it was dangerous to kidneys and other internal organs if used for a long time, so we weren't happy about that. Since it probably is an auto-immune issue, I started putting this L-Lysine in her morning tuna treat. She's finicky and I was afraid she wouldn't eat it, but she does. This was about a month ago, and she hasn't vomited since then. And there was a bonus. For a few years she had been bald on her back legs and up to a large portion of her hind quarters -- completely bald; only skin. After about a week of the Lysine, I noticed fuzz in the bald area. Now, it seems that her hair is coming in thicker. Another bonus is that she seems to be happier. As the Kenalog shots wore off you could tell she didn't feel well, and may have been in some pain, as she would hunker down and her eyes seemed to be glazed and sad. Now she plays, rolls around, and is engaged with us and her five cat-siblings.

Its healthy and supporte the cat life. I love it

We're really happy with this. My cat has had on and off problems with his eyes for years. Despite all efforts he kept getting problems. Since giving him this product with his food ( took him a couple of feeds to get used to it ) he's not had a problem for a long time now and seems happy and healthy

My fussy cats went crazy for this wven tried eating the little spoon. Appears to be making some changes with our more problematic cat and her eyes early days to fully confirm but they definitely love the taste thier new treat haha

This really worked on one of my cat who had continuous sneezing, and my cats did not have an issue with the taste

My cat, Pickles, is a low immune cat. She got sick and eyes infection (chlamydia) very often for the first few month I adopted her. The vet said the chlamydia will come back every now and then and it won’t go away. I looked up what would help, found this product with good reviews and wanted to give it a try. Since I’ve started using this product for about 3 months (one scoop in the morning almost everyday sprinkle on her wet food or mix with a little bit of water in the wet food) she hasn’t got the eye infection at all since. Her eyes clear up and seems so much healthier than before. Will definitely order again. Took about 1 month to arrive from Canada to Australia but worth it. (Hopefully I don’t exaggerate like I thought about all the reviews before)

Tomlyn L-Lysine Powder Supplement was as others have described it (not sealed and smells of yeast) BUT my cats seem to like it and the yeast etc are probably a;so good for them and my boys chronic eye condition seems to have improved.....
