Blue Horizon: Courtney, Book 11

A terrific set of stories. Great characters who pull you along for a great ride. I recommend this to any one who loves to learn about far-off places and times gone by. Wilbur Smith is a-heck-of-an-author telling a story that covers a lot of territory and time using well developed characters with depth and breadth. All of his books that I have read (and there ares many) have been well done, informative, and deeply enjoyable. This latest trilogy is Smith at his unparalleled best.

This is the fourth Wilber Smith's great Courtney series I have read and I have enjoyed each immensely! The stories proceed with the gaps of time filled in the least amount of details so as to not bore the fans who are continuing the series. Wilber Smith is artful in telling a enthralling, captivating tale with plenty of action, human romance and beauty of the African colonies while they are in their infancy. A great read and I look forward to the next.

Wilbur Smith is a fun writer that makes you want to come back for more. If you are a Wilbur Smith fan, you will not be disapointed with this book. The reason I did not rate it higher is because I think a five should be reserved for those over-the-top rare books that leave you thinking for a while. This book continues the stories of the two proceeding books, which I ranked slightly higher because the material was newer; however, this book was still good. I always tell my wife I want to move to Africa after reading a Wilbur Smith novel.

In it's 800 pages you get several stories, or maybe more with everything from swashbuckling action/adventure, ZULU battles, betrayal, sea battles, Arabian desert battles and intrigue, several romance sidelines, and even a lesson or two in reading sign and tracking. Smith doesn't skimp on storyline and even when it begins to drag you find that he's setting you up for another broadside. The Courtneys are alive and for the time being, well but that all changes in an instant. If you're a Wilbur Smith fan then he's back with a classic epic adventure. Few writers today can master what he does, whether its history, setting, cultural references, or sheer adventure. Saying that, let me add that if you can, then read the series of books from the beginning. Then, you'll find where and how this fits into the overall picture.

I loved that it place loyalties, bravery, Moral code in a high place. Great story with many turns, twist, close calls and my only disapointment was that I finised the read.

It's Wilbur Smith, nothing more to say.. Best there is in this genre and always fun and always full of action

If you like the Wilbur Smith formular this is just another masterpiece. I know what to expect from Wilbur Smith and he delivers every time. I love time piece writing, and this story follows the first white pioneers through the heart of Africa and then across to the Middle East. It's filled with gory descriptive battles, ruthless determined enemies and love. Each scene is fast-paced, action packed and contributes well to the overarching plot...recipe for a page-turner. There were two plot lines squashed together to make one big story, However he combines the two almost seamlessly. The baddies are a bit one dimensional - all bad with no good traits making them slightly less believable - but I guess that makes it easier to revel in their demise, which Wilbur Smith ensures is fitting. :)

This book is part of the Courtney series, and takes off where Smith"s Monsoon ended. It is pack full of adventure, intrigue, love, hate, and epic battles. Smith skillfully leads the reader from one impossible situation to another, and yet, in the end pulls it all together. You simply can not put it down. As with his other books, Smith does his homework. Although the Courtney series is fictional, the politics, norms, and life at that time are accurate. There are sailing terms and vocabulary specific to Africa in the book, but they are used sparingly, and with the Kindle, you can get their meaning instantly.

As usual a job well done by Mr.Smith.Have been reading his books for over 40years now and never a dull moment.Have just started his Sean Courtney series again.

Peccato per questo libro terribilmente noioso e piatto, anche a livello linguistico, perchè Wilbur Smith può essere anche un narratore coinvolgente come in Men of Men, un libro splendido che ci porta nel cuore dell'Africa e della tragedia che fu la colonizzazione. Qui il pattern è ripetitivo e prevedibile, donne bellissime, uomini invincibili, amori a prima vista e vince sempre il migliore.

Wilbur Smith is a fabulous writer! I have enjoyed many of his book. Alway fun and exciting reads. Highly recommended!

Nautical descriptions so graphic and accurate. Marvelous story telling. Loved how the family grew chapter by chapter. Wife by wife.

My best! Always a stand out Novel regards to adventure. One aspect I always admired is the extremes it deals with all relationships: Be it the Son and Father, Son and Mother, Daughter and Mother, Daughter and Father, Between brothers, Between Cousins, Worker and the boss, and goes on. Also the description for hunting, I can keep going.. May be my review will become a book:) Will always be one my best.
