Rich Flavor with the Perfect Sweet Heat
This gochujang has really great flavor with a nice balance of heat, sweetness, and savory depth. The texture is smooth and thick, making it easy to mix into sauces, marinades, soups, or stir fry dishes. A little goes a long way, and it adds a rich Korean-style flavor that works well in so many recipes. I’ve used it in marinades, noodle dishes, and dipping sauces, and it gives food a bold flavor without being overpowering. The quality tastes fresh and authentic, and it’s become a staple ingredient to keep in the refrigerator. Pros: * Great balance of sweet and spicy flavor * Smooth, easy-to-use texture * Very versatile for cooking * Rich flavor that enhances dishes well Cons: * None so far Overall, this is a delicious gochujang that adds excellent flavor and depth to a variety of meals.

I use this paste so often the fridge recognizes it! Alexa (Echo) reminds me to re-order! :D
A massive tub of fermented joy found a permanent home in the refrigerator of a person who has clearly abandoned all hope of a bland diet. The quality of this O'Food Gochujang is apparent from the first smell, releasing a complex aroma of sun-dried chilis and savory soybeans. It has a rich, velvety texture that spreads like a dream on chicken wings or ribs before they meet the scorching heat of the grill. This paste feels like a professional-grade ingredient that has been generously sized for the overly ambitious amateur who thinks they are a master of Asian fusion. This specific sauce is a unique health-conscious warrior, proudly proclaiming its gluten-free status while keeping the flavor profile remarkably traditional. The absence of corn syrup means the sweetness comes from the fermentation of rice, providing a sophisticated depth that cheaper alternatives simply cannot match. The design of the packaging is utilitarian and honest, featuring a wide mouth that allows for easy access with even the largest of ladles. It is a dense, heavy product that feels like it could survive a trip to Mars and still be ready to flavor a stew upon arrival. Integrating this red paste into a meal is a straightforward affair, assuming one knows that a little goes a remarkably long way. It acts as a savory anchor for stews and soups, providing a thick body and a rich color that makes any dish look twice as appetizing. The unique "spicy-sweet-savory" trifecta is perfectly balanced, ensuring that no single note overpowers the others in the symphony of the stir-fry. It is a versatile tool in the kitchen, equally at home in a complex BBQ rub or a simple dipping sauce for crunchy vegetables. However, the lid can be a bit of a trickster, occasionally refusing to snap shut properly if a tiny bit of paste dries on the rim of the container. The labeling is mostly clear, though some of the finer details might require a magnifying glass for those interested in the minutiae of fermented bean history. Also, the weight of the tub makes it a bit of a workout to move from the back of the shelf to the counter if one is feeling particularly lazy. It is a truthful and concise representation of a classic staple, providing high-quality flavor with only a few minor logistical headaches. :D Excellent Things Rich, authentic fermentation provides a deep "umami" flavor that enhances almost any savory dish. 👍 The absence of wheat-based thickeners makes it a cleaner, more traditional choice for the pantry. 👍 Wide-mouth tub design allows you to get every last bit of paste without a specialized scraper. 👍 Versatile enough to be used as a marinade, a base for soup, or a direct table condiment. Unworthy Things The lid seal can become compromised if you aren't meticulous about cleaning the edges after use. 👎 A one-kilogram tub is not enough! 👎 The bright red color will permanently stain any plastic container it touches for more than five minutes. 👎 Information on the back of the tub is printed in a font size seemingly meant for ants.

It's *NOT* Corn Syrup!
Several reviewers of Chung Jung One Sunchang Gochujang have rated the product one star due to their belief the primary ingredient in the product is *corn syrup*. It is NOT. The English language ingredients label pasted on the product container over the original, Korean language label contains a mistranslation; the first ingredient, properly translated from the Korean, is *rice syrup*, NOT corn syrup. Rice syrup is going to be the first ingredient in any authentic gochujang you buy (and if you purchase another brand that lists corn syrup instead of rice syrup on the English translation of the original Korean, it's likewise a mistranslation). That being said, there is nothing wrong with eating products using corn syrup (or using corn syrup yourself in cooking/baking). Corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) are two different things. Corn syrup consists primarily of *glucose* and water. HFCS is created by adding enzymes to corn syrup which convert the glucose to *fructose*. Fructose (HFCS) is much sweeter by volume than glucose, so manufacturers can use far less HFCS as a sweetener in their products than if they were to use corn syrup. Using HFCS instead of corn syrup considerably reduces the manufacturing cost of the products that require a sweetener. Of the three types of sugars - sucrose, glucose, and fructose - studies most often report negative side effects from *fructose* - HFCS - than glucose (corn syrup) or sucrose. Of course, ingestion of sugar (regardless of type) should be limited in a healthy diet. There is no reason to avoid using products which contain corn syrup (or rice syrup, for that matter). Like corn syrup, rice syrup consists primarily of glucose. As to the uses of gochujang: Gochugang is an ingredient most often used in marinades, dipping sauces, soups, and stews. It's not intended to be used as a condiment. You *can* use it that way, if you like - but it's not a substitute for sambal oelek, sriracha, hot sauce, etc.. The flavor profile of gochujang is sweet/smoky/hot (hot to varying degrees, depending upon brand). The Chung Jung One Sunchang Gochujang is the first gochujang I've tried, and I like it. I bought it to use in a recipe for "Slow-Roast Gochujang Chicken" published online by Bon Appetit. A great recipe to try to learn how this ingredient is used!

Its the best around.
This used to be around ₹500 but for some reason its jumped up in price and stayed that way for a good while. That said nothing and I mean nothing beats this in taste. I've tried other brands, there's a certain mix of tart and heat that you just do not get from the others. I mean if you're using it for daily cooking I wouldn't buy this, the Indian brands work well enough. But if you eat some dishes only on cheat days and want that authentic flavor nothing really beats the Chung Jung . The other brands tend to be a bit more sour, a bit more akin to tomato paste than a chilie paste.
