We challenge you to find a warmer or drier sock than this high-wool, boot-length performer. Wool's amazing thermal regulation, vapor transport, and odor resistant properties are highlighted in this Carhartt design. Built at the ideal weight to fit comfortably in boots and still provide maximum warmth, this sock is also reinforced in the heel and toe to resist abrasion and extend durability. Spandex and a non-terry vent reduce bulk at the ankle for comfort. Try this sock and you'll understand why wool has long been the preferred cold weather fiber for outdoorsmen. Made in the USA

The End to Cold Feet!
I finally got fed up with having cold feet in the Winter. The athletic socks that I wore for the past several years just didn't cut it any more. Those socks wore out at the heel quickly. I saw the stellar reviews for the Carhartt Artic Wool Boot socks and although expensive, I decided to give them a try. Best $20 I've ever spent. I've had these socks two months now and my feet have been super comfortable and toasty. My shoe size is 10-1/2 D to size 11, and the XL size fits perfectly. I highly recommend these socks, and I plan on reordering them, I-F they ever wear out. Five stars!Update: March 27, 2013. These socks can get a little nubby, just because they're wool. That is the only negative so far, and that is only appearance. The socks continue to do their job well, which is to keep my feet warm and cushioned. These things are like wearing the most comfortable slippers man ever created. I'm still very pleased with this product. My feet have never survived a Winter more effortlessly.

Wear Out Quickly
My husband has cold feet. He raved about these socks. I bought him five more pairs. He generally only wears them in the house with slippers or to bed. After having them less than six months, there are holes in the heels. Great sock, great fit, warm; however, they have worn out unusually fast.

Developed a hole in heel after a dozen wears
These are fairly nice socks, warm, comfortable, and a good fit over the calf. I consider my calf a little larger than normal for my size, 6', 170 lbs with a shoe size of 11. Unfortunately these socks did not last long. A hole developed in one of the heels. Not worth the expense for only a dozen wears.Carhartt will now join People Socks on the list of socks to avoid. (People Socks merino blend socks also developed holes in the heel)I've been wearing some Browning tall merino socks for about 2 months and have been very impressed with them so far. We'll see how they hold up.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VPGFX6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not what I was hoping for
Pros:- Tons of very cushy/comfortable padding on bottom if socks.- Very warm- Nice lookingCons:- Calf portion of sock is not very elastic, and uncomfortable. This coming from a guy whose always been a little self contious about my girly calfs. So if you have strong calfs, you'll most likely dislike this sock.- Socks are too tall in my opinion. I'm 6'5", and they stop just a few inches below my knees. I wouldn't necessarily mind them being so tall if the calf material was stretchier.- I've noticed WAY better deals on socks in nearby stores like Ross and T.J. Max. Socks that I would probably enjoy a lot more than these carhartts.

Great, but took too long to get here.
I ordered these socks 2 weeks before Christmas and they ended up taking a month to get here. I wondered if they had to raise the sheep, sheer them, make the yarn, knit the socks, and THEN ship them to me !!! My husband fishes off the coast of California and although he hasn't worn them yet (he would have if they had arrived on time!!) they will be great to keep his feet warm inside his fishing boots. I'm docking off 1 star because 1 month to receive a pair of socks is ridiculous. I would have gone to a store instead had I known.

THE BEST Boot Socks for Railroaders-- Winter Weather, 87%-Wool
________________________________________________________I buy these for my husband. He's a Railroad Freight Conductor and requires a good, and long-lasting (durable), sock.________________________________________________________WEATHERNow, my husband has the 37%-Wool Carhartt Men's EXTREMES WOOL ARTIC Boot Sock (for Winter). As they are now unavailable, I can't post a link to them.AND, he has the 17%-Wool Carhartt Men's EXTREMES COLD WEATHER Boot Sock (for Spring and Autumn). Carhartt Men's Extremes Cold Weather Boot Sock BUT, when Carhartt came out with these 87%-Wool Carhartt MEN'S ARTIC WOOL HEAVY BOOT SOCKS , well, that was it. I bought my husband 10-pair and he's in absolute heaven. These socks, in his words, are 'Roasty-Toasty', and that's just the way he likes his tootsies, *vvvbs*________________________________________________________LENGTH & DURABILITYThey are 'Boot Length', (which means 'just-over-the-calf'), Wear well, and Wash well. No pilling. And, being just-over-the-calf, they stay up... which is good news for boot wearers.________________________________________________________SIZINGThe Sizing was a bit of a problem. My husband wears a 10 1/2 boot, so, you would think he'd take the large-size sock that supposedly fits a 10-12 shoe. Wrong. We found that the socks were too tight both in the feet and in the calf, and sent them back in exchange for the Extra-Large, (fitting shoe size 12-15), and those fit him perfectly. No tightness whatsoever... just a very nice fit that gives good support as well. (He is not overweight at all, nor does he suffer from over-large calves or ankles... he's 6' and weighs 200lbs)_________________________________________________________THE 'FEEL'They have no Toe-seams, are totally Re-inforced, and are so Soft & Cushy in the Toe and Heel. He says he even feels support in his Arch... a good thing for a man who is setting out cars and walking those tracks at all hours of the FREEZING-COLD day and night.________________________________________________________SUMMARYMy husband is very pleased with these socks, and so am I. It seemed to take forever to find the right kind of sock for him--> Weather-wise, Fit-wise, and Quality-wise; but, after many trials and errors, we finally found his 'Holy Grail' of Winter-weather work socks. 87%-WOOL!Go get 'em... you'll be glad you did!

Don' buy these!
I bought these socks to wear with my boots for walking the dogs 30 min a day in the winter. They lasted 40 DAYS! They have holes in the heels already! 18 dollar socks should last LONGER than 30 DAYS!

Disappointed in warmth and fit
Disappointed in the socks warmth and fit.I purchased these to wear when I photograph in Yosemite Valley during the winter. I wanted warm socks to keep my feet warm, and these did not work well because I was always stomping my feet.
