Clairol Natural Instincts Demi-Permanent Hair Dye, 6R Light Auburn Hair Color, Pack of 1

I have used this semi permanent hair color in Light Auburn for years now. It's quick and easy to apply and the color lasts a long time. Completely covers my grey. The conditioner they provide leaves my hair soft and shiney, I would like a big bottle of that stuff! The color is very natural looking too. The instructions say put it on dry hair but I wet my hair first. I have very long hair and the dry method just didn't work for me. I apply it in the shower and rinse it in there too. So easy!

I really like this shade, but it definitely comes out lighter on strawberry blonde hair than the box suggests. Instead of a deep burgundy, it turned into a soft chocolate‑cherry color — still very pretty, just not as dark or dramatic. The formula itself is gentle, smells better than most dyes, and leaves my hair feeling soft thanks to the added oils. If you’re starting with lighter hair, just keep in mind that the final color will be more of a warm reddish‑brown with cherry tones rather than a true dark burgundy. Still, it’s a lovely shade and fades nicely over time.

Color not right. I picked the light auburn as it best matches my natural hair color at the roots. I died my hair blonde a year ago so the bottom half of my hair is blonde and I thought this could be good to get the bleached hair back to my natural color. Turned my hair DARK BURGUNDY. Such an unnatural color red. I’ve washed my hair about 8 times since and it is starting to fade into a nice natural-ish color finally. Unless you are going for an unnatural punchy purple-red I do not recommend.

Very easy to apply. My very muddy blondish hair had grown out a completely different color after losing 2/3 of it from an unknowingly highly deleterious product claiming to be ever so gentle and rejuvenating. . . . my daughter alerted me to the already $256 million paid in damages and to, of course, STOP using it. Took a full 2.5 years to grow back a healthy head of hair. In any case, I found this product to be exceptional, the color true to form with its deep auburn overtones and was a fun, conditioning experiment. But, as ALWAYS a natural blonde my entire life as are my children, I don’t really look familiar to myself and will likely make an attempt to return to something close to the person I once recognized in the mirror, when sleeping properly and consistently. BUT OVERALL, I highly recommend this product and as it is only temporary, and truly so gentle, a great way to try on a new presentation. You know women and their hair! We only have so much we can control. I truly didn’t even get it applied with absolute accuracy but it really did a fantastic job of overriding my slightly exhausted self as I went about it. VERY inexpensive considering the outcome and ease of use. Just be sure to have a less than favorite towel on your shoulders to keep off your skin although it has no ammonia or anything particularly damaging, just would very temporarily stain your skin. I wish there was a permanent hair dye option for 4RR - Dark Red! So many reds are too bright, but this shade is a vivid dark auburn that does not lean purple/burgundy - I don't know that anyone would mistake it for being natural, but it is a trendy shade of red without being unprofessional.

I've used boxed dye on my hair for decades and recently decided to go from black to dark brown back to auburn. It's going to take a while for the black to grow out, but this dye hits the roots and gives a nice reddish sheen over the black. I don't wash my hair too often, only about once a week because it is thin and dry, so I've never had a problem with this washing out before the next application. I also alternate this with a permanent dark burgundy. One box is enough for a short style - more than a pixie but not quite chin length twice. I just weigh out half the bottle and half of the cream, mix them in an old bottle and apply.
