Maude: Season 2
E**.
Season 2 delights even more than Season 1!
Bea Arthur shines & delivers laughs aplenty in Season 2 of "Maude". Although much of the episodes revolve around topics that can make the program feel dated, ironically enough the issues back in the 70s, although referenced with 70s terminology, are still very much present in today's time. Substitute Nixon for Bush & you'll see what I mean. Although Maude herself is a self-proclaimed Liberal Democrat & feminist, Norman Lear made sure that the comedy included poking fun at the absurdities of the Democrats as well the Republican Conservatives (in the form of Arthur Harmon played brilliantly by the late, great Conrad Bain). The spotlight shines fairly frequently on Esther Rolle this season, who often provides many of the jokes to which Maude was the butt of. She clearly held her own & it's fairly obvious the powers-that-be knew there was a potential sitcom lead in Ms. Rolle as she was spun off into her own show "Good Times" at the end of this season. The farewell between Florida & Maude, while predictably comical, nevertheless tugs at the heartstrings as we know (and it's hinted at) that these two ladies, who truly loved each other, would never see each other again. Though bigger & better things awaited Florida (and Ms. Rolle) in her own sitcom, we can't help but feel sad that she's gone for good from the Findley household.Look for Vivian & Arthur to become an official item this season, delighting this "Golden Girls" fan since it meant increased exposure for Rue McClanahan on the show. While the pairing of Bea with Rue is commonplace in "Golden Girls", I truly marvel at seeing the two of them in scenes together. Oftentimes there isn't even a hint of "Blanche" & "Dorothy", which can be attributed to these talented ladies. Imagine Dorothy & Maude along with Vivian & Blanche in the same scene & you'd swear there were four different actresses playing those roles.Bill Macy shines in this season as well, showing the vulnerable sides to Walter when he deals with financial pressures, insecurities about how he measures up to Maude's other husbands & his realization that he is an alcoholic... at one point he even strikes Maude in a drunken stupor & falls to pieces. Totally underrated but always able to hold his own, Bill proves to be ideal for Bea as a partner in providing the right balance of masculine vulnerability without it ever coming off as emasculating.I eagerly await Season 3...

Glad it is finally on DVD
Caught this show on cable but they aired sporadically or out of order so I am glad they are being released on DVD. If viewers liked Golden Girls or Mamas Family or All In The Family this show will probably appeal to viewers of comedies from that era.

Es wird mit keinem Wort darauf hingewiesen, dass die DVDs nur mit US-amerikanischen Abspielgeräten funktioniert.das ist sehr enttäuschend fßr mich gewesen
