Wonderful Surprise
Just got back into board games and started building a collection. Saw a few videos on this and it seemed simple and fun. It's fantastic for a quick game for adults or a solving problem game for younger people. Easy to understand and they give you little rules cards you can reference until you memorize so you're not going through a handbook. Materials feel very nice and the artwork is fun and well done. For the price you can't beat this fun and easy game.

Love this game!
Everyone we introduce this game to ends up buying it. We actually left this game somewhere and loved it so much that we repurchased it. It's competitive but not too crazy. It's challenging and strategic but just enough to make it exciting. Easy enough for an 8 year old, but fun enough for adults. The instructions are easy to follow. The game pieces are quality. It's also nice and compact. Great price for a game that we will play forever.

Not just for kids! Adults can have fun too!
Short review: Dragonwood is a fun, easy game to play. It’s not just for kid but also great for adults. If you enjoy card games, RPG, or fantasy genre you’ll love Dragonwood. Long review: My wife and I both are big readers of fantasy books and we love card games like Uno. I wanted to find a simple and fun RPG game for us. Majority of RPG board games are over complicated. They can take a long time to play and an even longer time to learn lol Then they can take forever to set up and clean up Dragonwood is the opposite of all that. It’s super easy to learn, quick to play, and has almost no set up just shuffle a couple decks and you’re ready! The artwork is fun and lighthearted. Collecting cards to roll and battle monsters is a blast, and the enhancement cards add great perks. The event cards mix things up nicely too. We’ve played it many times and it has excellent replay value. Despite its kid-friendly look its excellent for adults as well. If you enjoy fantasy books or movies and love games, you’ll adore Dragonwood. It’s now part of our regular game nights alongside Uno, Monopoly Deal, and Yahtzee. Pro tip: Have a pint of beer and play fantasy music in the background while playing Dragonwood lol

Great artwork, easy to learn, good replay value
Component quality is a solid 5 star. The artwork is gorgeous. The game itself is easy to learn. On your turn, you choose from the available creatures to attack. You collect cards into runs(strike), sets(stomp), or flushes(scream). The number of cards you play is the number of dice you can roll. The if your total points on the dice is equal or greater than the defense of that creature, then you defeat them and collect the trophy points for that creature. At the end of the game, player with the most trophy points wins. This game exceeded my expectations. It looks simple. There's luck, but definitely more skill is required. The game could be taught in a matter of 2 minutes. The game is great in every way....but.... This is one of those games where after you play the first time, you'll start making your own house rules. The rules state that on your turn you can pick up a card or play cards for an attack. Our first game or two had several turns where we just went back and forth picking up cards until one of us had enough to play. We preferred these house rules to keep the game going faster and more fun: - Everyone starts with 5 cards - On your turn, you can either pick up 1 card or lay down 1 or more cards for an attack. - If you attack and win, you draw cards until you have at least 5 cards in your hand. - If you attack and loose, you do NOT draw cards at the end of your turn (there's no 1 card penalty) - There's no limit to the number of cards you can hold. There's a rule that states you may not hold more than 9 cards, but we saw no reason for such a limit. It makes little sense to hold that many cards. We found it best to eliminate the rule just to keep the rule list shorter. - Ladybug cards are not played until the start of your turn. If you pick up a ladybug card at the end of your turn, you must wait until your next turn to use it. You can also save ladybug cards if you wish. - Ladybug cards could either be used to draw two more cards from the deck or played as a wild card as part of your hand (optional). There's already a wild card in the creature deck, but because it's a one time use card, it's power isn't very balanced compared to other enhancement cards. With these rule modifications, the game tends to go faster. As a result, we eliminated the end game rules. We play until every creature has been defeated. This was also due to the fact that my daughter wanted to play through the whole deck of creatures. The basic mechanics and artwork make this a 5 star game, but the rules and some of the cards didn't seem very balanced. More could be done with the enhancement cards in regards to balance and usage. Definitely a solid game that lends itself to house rules to keep it interesting. Fast and simple. My daughter loved it.

Great family game
Great game for kids that adults can enjoy playing as well. Good mix of skill and luck to keep it interesting. Need to be able to add multiple dice (up to 4 per dice). Helps with probability thinking. Medium/small size box that makes it easy to take with. My six year old can play competitively with adults. Adults have been known to continue playing even after children have left. Great addition to game library for family game nights. Only downside is max players is 4.

To my surprise, and delight, my young children (6 and 9 years old) are very much into Dungeon and Dragons. Just the mention of it gets them even more excited than the Playstation - which is quite commendable in this digital- and streaming age. However even the basic and standard versions of this game are time-consuming to play. So I was on thelookout for related games with dragons, hero’s and dice that can also be taken along easily on our frequent holidays. Dragonwood is more a dice game than role playing, but the fantasy element is there. To start with, it is a very nicely illustrated its a visually appealing card game, that seems to be of reasonably good quality and is presented very well. It took a small effort to learn the rules and to explain this to the children. But they could swiftly play along. The average games takes us between 15 and twenty minutes, though there is a wide variation - a game might only take a small amount of time in case a dragon shows up early or if you end up with a strong set of cards. It can be played by 2 to 4 players. It’s for 8-year and older however our youngest, that we generally pull along in more complex games, had little problem playing it. In essence, its a card combination game; you collect series of adventurer cards to be able to throw the dice to battle creatures. This in turn wins you points. The aim is to collect the most point value through these creature cards. A wide range of standard fantasy foes is included; goblins, fire- ants, trolls, ogres. There are a few types of cards that you can win by using card combinations of dice throws; ‘Enchantment cards’ can be helpful while ‘event cards’ throw up unexpected events. There are cards that support you with one of the three types of attack, this upgrading has some roleplaying elements. In particular given that one of the challenges is to decide when to play such cards. So this game proved very popular with my children although it took a few practice rounds to get them to grips with it. At the start we always made sure to work from the summary cards. We’ve played it very frequently now. And the children love to introduce it to their friends and cousins. It’s a good, thoughtful game that demands a fair bit of engagement. I quite like the fact that it forces children to consider strategic options and to think about chances/probabilities. While it forces you to train your memory skills. It's simply FUN to play and even more important is that it allows families and friends to have a good time together. All this combined makes it very good value for money.

I bought this game to play with my 9 year old daughter and she loved it. I have other games from Gamewright but this one beats all. Very entertaining, has enough variety to keep playing over and over. Best part is, you can find ways not to play against each other but set aims like defeating all the creatures together. Possible to play 2 players as well.
