Slowed my Lab’s eating (and stopped the puking)... worth every penny
I bought the Outward Hound Large Slow Feeder Bowl (purple maze) for my black Lab, Captain, who could inhale a full meal faster than I can say “sit.” He was gobbling so quickly that he’d sometimes throw up late at night or first thing in the morning. After switching to this bowl, he’s forced to work his way around the grooves, and... hallelujah... no more upset tummy so far. He’s calmer at mealtime, and I can literally hear him chewing. What I like... Actually slows him down. Meals take several minutes now instead of a blink-and-it’s-gone sprint. Stays put. The base grips well on any floor surface. Easy to clean. I rinse after each meal; it’s also top-rack dishwasher safe. Right size for big dogs. The Large fits a Lab-sized portion with room to hunt. Tips: If your dog gets frustrated, start by sprinkling a few treats into the channels so they “get” the game. For kibble, I sometimes add a splash of water... makes it a tiny puzzle and keeps him from gulping. Supervise the first few meals to make sure they don’t try to flip it or chew it (Captain didn’t, but…Labs). I’m buying a second one so I can rotate and keep a clean bowl ready. If you’ve got a fast eater and a sensitive stomach, this little purple maze is a sanity saver. Captain gives it two paws up... and my floors agree.

Perfect Slow Feeder for Fast Eaters
Great product! The non-slip base keeps the bowl steady and has really helped slow down our 12-week-old English Mastiff puppy’s eating. He used to finish in about 3 minutes, and now it takes him 15–20 minutes, which is a huge difference. The bowl is generously sized, but that’s perfect since I plan to continue using it as he grows. Works perfectly!

Slows My Puppy Down Without Frustrating Her
My fast eating German Shepherd puppy was inhaling her food, so I picked up this slow feeder bowl. The maze design actually works. She eats at a normal pace now instead of acting like she’s in a food competition. The bowl stays put on the floor and it’s easy to clean, which matters because she is growing fast and making bigger messes every week. She seems more satisfied after meals and there is no coughing or gulping anymore. Great buy if your dog eats too fast. I now own a few different pieces, to mix it up a little for her.

Great quality slow eater bowl
Great quality for the price. It’s a huge bowl, and at first I thought it was too big but it’s the perfect size. Works well for my dogs wet fresh food and also hard treats. He doesn’t experience issues when he’s eating, and there was no learning curve for him. The bowl has a little weight due to the sturdy plastic and it has a rubber ring on the bottom to help with slip resistance. I definitely recommend this bowl and it’s super easy to clean!

It is effective
Update on purple flower (LG): My dog was too spastic when eating from the blue puzzle slow feeder. It causes me grief. So I bought the "slowest" one, the purple flower. At first, she took more time and was calmer with it, taking 13-5 minutes to clear the bowl as she was trying to figure out how/where to access the food. After a couple of weeks, she can completely clear the bowl in 8-10 minutes but most of it gone within 4-5 minutes. The nice thing is her droopy ears don't dangle in the food as much since the purple flower is more shallow. It's also a hint wider. So that helps keep her ears from smelling like watered down dog food. And it's a color and shape I like. They both hold her 1.5 cups of kibble plus 16 oz of water, no problem. Just that the purple one is a little more easily tipped when I carry it to her dinner tray. I think that each of these slow feeder bowls should help slow down many dogs. Just find the one you like. Original review re blue puzzle (LG): Thank you Outward Hound for creating another intelligent dog product and for preserving my sanity. My hound doesn't drink enough unless I add water to her food. This causes her to be very enthusiastic about eating. Left alone with a large Durapet bowl, 1.5 cups of kibble/freeze dried food, some canned food, pumpkin puree, and 20-24 oz water, it's gone in 3 minutes. Too stressful for me due to risk of vomiting or bloat or stomach flip. If I have to micromanage her with the open bowl, it's stressful for both of us and she inhales a lot of air = burping and some flatulence. No good. Feed her with this blue puzzle feeder (LG 4 cup size) and she takes 1-3 minutes to finish the liquid, and 10 minutes more to consume most of the food. Total time is about 15 minutes for her to get all of the food cobsumed. I ask her to pause a few times and stretch out mealtime a little longer. I just returned the orange and teal ones without using them since this one looked best for us upon arrival and it is all we need. She's a 55# Rhodesian Ridgeback and she can just fit her jaw in there some. Perfect her her size of dog. For smaller dogs, I'd consider the other ones or the smaller ones. And I ordered a couple of extras just in case. She doesn't yet chew or bite the bowl (she's a gentle omega dog) but when you find something that works well, you're dependent upon it, and it's on prime days big deal for under $10, wise buys extra!). This bowl holds 4 cups wet or dry as advertised on the "box". For my girl, she gets nearly 2 cups wet and dry mixed plus up to 24 ounces of water and there is some room to spare. My only complaint is that it shifts around on the silicon feeding mat I use. So to prevent her from stepping in the slop from her water lapping, I need to micromanage her. Thus 4 stars. But it's otherwise an absolutely fantastic tool that we couldn't live without. I strongly recommend!

Works great
Works great for slowing down my dog's eating. Heavy enough that he can't tip it over. Has grip pads on the bottom, so it doesn't slide around. Easy to keep clean. Very happy

Large slow feeder for dogs
Large slow feeder for Doberman excellent choice , would recommend for any dog, prevents from gulping food quickly which can cause Bloat in any size dog, my Dobie inhales food, this dish prevents any dog from eating food quickly, I ordered a large bowel and it took my Dobie 20 to 30 minutes eating food properly preventing vomiting up her food. Would highly recommend allows your dog to work for food slowly prevents gulping food. 👍 I had to order another bowel and send as a Christmas gift for family pet
