Castle Paperback – Illustrated, 25 Oct. 1982

Very nice illustrations and after some talc to stick down loose pages ( purchased used so was expected) was very much enjoyed by the adults and children that saw it

Wonderful book. As a child I had the other one called Cathedral. Cathedrals are cool, but I thought wouldn't it be amazing if the same author did a book on Castles. Now that would be cool. I was delighted when I discovered this. Even if you know a lot about castle design and architecture, there are defenses and design features I had no idea about. I love this book.

Almost as good as his City book. The only disappointment is it is far fewer pages.

As a fourth-grade young boy, I checked this book out of the library every week for well over a year until my local librarians bought me this book for Chanukkah! It is still on my shelves as an adult.I find it a masterpiece of interesting, quick reading coupled with Macaulay's well-acclaimed and wonderful illustrations. Macaulay's wonderful illustrations show pictorially exactly how a castle was built in stages, who did the work from the master architect to the most common laborer, how the castle functioned in war along with the troops that manned it, and even how the castle could be used as an economic and political bastion against enemies.I also want to add that Macaulay allowed PBS to make an animated TV special of his book around the 1980's that can still be found if one looks.I named my childhood pet fish after the characters in this book. While my review of this book is most definitely fanatical, I cannot emphasize enough how charming this book really is. It's the pinnacle of fun castle books for a castle enthusiast, child or adult!I highly recommend this wonderful book for children and adults of all ages.
