My grandson was pleased
My grandson is a Godzilla freak. He was excited to watch this movie. Though the acting was cheesy, he found it to be enjoyable

A review from a new fan
I used to love all the Godzilla movies when I was a little kid, but since then I've never really been a fan. I love the original Japanese "Gojira" (1954) with subtitles, but all the sequels that I've seen were cheesy kid-fare. I do own a few of the other movies on dvd such as "King Kong vs. Godzilla" and "Destroy All Monsters", but I only like them in a "so bad they're good" kind of way. Then a few months ago I found out about the original Japanese version of "Godzilla 1985", called "The Return of Godzilla" in Japan, and how like the original "Gojira" and the US version "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" are TOTALLY different, so were these two versions. "Godzilla 1985" has never been released on dvd in the US due to some legal issues with the music, and "The Return of Godzilla" has never been released over here period, so I had to resort to buying a bootleg copy. As with "Gojira", I loved it. The original Japanese version was a much different, darker film. Okay, so that was now two Godzilla movies I actually like....A few weeks ago as of this review, I was bored and was watching some videos on Youtube of the Top Ten Godzilla Movies. Almost every Top Ten list put this movie called "Godzilla, Mothra, and King Gidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack!" at or near the top. I had seen it on Amazon.com before, but because of the title I never even bothered to read what it was about. I mean, seriously, that is the worst title ever! But because all these fans were ranking it so high, I did some more research and found out that despite the title it actually sounded interesting. Like "Godzilla 1985"/"Return of Godzilla", it's a direct sequel to the original and pretends like none of the rest happened. It was supposed to be "serious" and "dark" with pretty good special effects. Okay, I decided to buy it and check it out.WOW. I've now watched this movie twice since it arrived about a week ago. This is actually a good movie, not campy like so many other Godzilla movies. It actually has a pretty good story and makes Godzilla menacing and mean. Godzilla was killed in the first movie, but now he's back as an undead thing possessed by the souls of all the people who died in the Pacific War. The cinematography and acting are all good. I like that the characters actually ask intelligent questions like "Why is Godzilla always targeting Japan?", and the movie actually gives a good answer. I also like all the references to other Godzilla movies, like at the beginning when it's mentioned that a giant monster attacked New York in 1998 and someone asks, "Was it Godzilla?" "Well, the Americans seem to think so...but Japanese experts are skeptical." And when Mothra first appears, and for no reason the camera zooms in on these two twin girls...The special effects are good for a Godzilla movie, but don't expect them to look like a Hollywood movie, or even "Godzilla 1985". Sometimes Godzilla is CGI, sometimes he's a guy in a suit (a better looking suit than 95% of the movies). Sometimes it's good CGI like when Godzilla is seen from a distance, sometimes it's a little made-for-TV-ish, like the first time Godzilla rises from the water or when Godzilla and Gidorah are fighting underwater. But the buildings are real buildings and the tanks are real tanks, not cardboard boxes and toys. The explosions all look impressive. This movie has a lot of action, unlike some Godzilla movies that focus too much on the (often boring) human story. Instead, the characters in this one are actually interesting and there's a good balance. I was kept entertained throughout and immediately wanted to watch it again. The guy who directed this movie, Shusuke Kaneko, also directed a trilogy of Gamera movies that also have really good reviews, so I'm going to check those out next. I wish this director had done more Godzilla movies as this is one of the best ones I've seen. If I were to rank my favorites they rank in this order:1. Gojira2. The Return of Godzilla3. Godzilla GMKAfter watching this movie I actually ordered the Godzilla videogame for Gamecube, which I guess means I'm becoming a Godzilla fan. :)

Almost Perfect
The dvd was shipped and received very swiftly so kudos for amazon for that!I received and watch the movie yesterday as i had never seen it before. In short i will say this is a very good installment in the Godzilla Franchise.(Spoilers!)The atmosphere of the movie is really good, with excellent film score. It is more serious than other Godzilla movies. You know how in these movies there is that one annoying kid that to make it appeal to younger audiences? Yea no annoying kid in this one.You know how the military always seems a bit comical in their over the top uniforms and how they are either complete jerks, or super nice and patriotic? Yea you dont get that here. The military seems more real, even their uniforms and equipment seem appropriate to real life. Overall it is more gritty from the human standpoint. The human side of the plot is well done, and it doesn't leave you with "come on show Godzilla already!" even though it does take a while for him to make an appearance. The monsters seem to have gone through somewhat of a remake in both looks and background. For once King Ghidorah is a good guy and is a protector of the land (along with Mothra and Barugon). Both Mothra and Barugon look good, but i didn't quite like Ghidorah's appearance. He seemed to clean and cartoonish in appearance. It just did not feel right. Now the reason i only gave the movie 4 stars was because of the way they did Godzilla. The suit they used really irked me, and it was a sore spot for me throughout his appearance. I like the Grey/silver eyes he had as they suited his aggressive nature, but the way he carried himself reminded me of a cross between Steve urkle, and a Birdo from super mario brothers 2 (look it up). The movie seemed to have a bigger budget than most Godzilla movies it would stand to reason they would do a better job on the main character.Despite his appearance Godzilla is full on Beast in the movie. Most movies he rampages and damages stuff but always seems to appear like he is just really bored. Even when he fights other monsters when they are defeated he just moves on looking for something else to do. Not in this movie! Godzilla's rampage is full of intent, and he even takes notice small groups of people and intentionally attacks them. His fights with the other monsters are equally as savage, and he doesn't mess around. If you are a fan of Godzilla movies this is a must have!

wow
This Godzilla film the 3rd in the millenium series is one of the best Godzilla films to date. Hear as usual continuinty has been thrown out and what you get is a direct sequel of sorts to the original 1954 Godzilla movie. Godzilla is returning to wreek havoc on japan and only the guardian monsters of Baragon,Mothra and king Ghidora can stop him !The first 35 mins or so not much happenes then for the next hour its pretty much non stop action ! I disagree somewhat with the other review her and i thought Mothra was by far the weakest monster in the film, she has made better showings in other godzilla movies. I though thought the smackdown with Baragon was the most impressive of the battles which is the first in the movie. The least impressive though was the end fight between Godzilla/Ghidora underwater..the fx just didnt cut it at all im afraid. The fx work ranges between pathetic and absoloutly amazing ! some of the battles are truly impressive and the scenes of destruction are awesome! There are a few hilariously bad fx shots though in keeping in form with godzilla movies in general!! but overall its pretty decent, although obviously most of it isnt up to american standards of course but its all part of the fun aint it ! The big G himself has been redesigned again and he's fierce in this film ! his eyes are white and people get trampled to death ! this is one mean mutha !Youll have a lot of fun with this flick and you get the movie in widescreen with either english dubbed 5.1 or jap 5.1 s/tracks !4/5

After 50 years they get it right!
As a kid I loved Godzilla, and I am thoroughly enjoying introducing my daughter to the creatures now that I am an adult (so to speak). Apart from the first Godzilla movie from 1954, I find the rest of the series far too hokey to watch anymore. That is why I was pleasantly surprised to discover this gem among the Godzilla catalog. It took them 50 years, but they finally got it right! This movie picks up 50 years after the first movie. In this tale, none of the other hokey movies of the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's movies have taken place. Godzilla has been asleep for 50 years but is reawakened at a time when Japan is no longer acknowledging their role in the global conflicts of the previous century. The spirits of the dead have reanimated Godzilla and they have come to venge themselves on the uncaring population of Japan.Who can stop it? An ancient spirit is awakened in Japan. He contacts a news reporter to try and get her to warn the Japanese people that they have to change their ways. He also asks her aid in awakening the Guardian Monsters, Baragon, Mothra, and Ghidorah, to protect the land from the rampage of Godzilla. The result? An all out monster attack featuring monster fights, jet planes, missiles, rockets, battleships, and a daring hero in a small one man sub.The characters are reasonably well developed--considering this is a monster movie. The story is solid and exciting. My daughter loves this movie, not just because her favourite monster, King Ghidorah, is in it, but because one of the two heroes of the movie is a young, gutsy woman who overcomes fear to do something that she believes in. Her father, too, the other hero of the film, overcomes fear, and is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good of the land that he loves.

If you want to watch a serious Godzilla make it this one!!!
This 2001 godzilla feature is a visually impressive and actionfest core Godzilla fans will love. However be prepared for this movie as Godzilla is no accidental hero in this one, he is proper mean and his eyes look so devilisly insane that you might think this is a different Godzilla altogether. The main difference is that this Godzilla is seen killing people, but the history of the monster has been rewritten (a common practice with these ongoing Godzilla sequels) to make it relevant, and thats where the problem lies. But we Godzilla fans dont really care about the story, its the action that counts and this movie certainly delivers in that environment.Godzilla takes on Baragon, a slightly redesigned Mothra and King Ghidorah (here reinvented as hero!!). Baragon isnt really that impressive, Mothra on the other hand is quite impressive but King Ghidorah is a massive disappointment and here is much smaller, even smaller than Godzilla for the first time.If you love your monster battles, then this is the ultimate Godzilla movie to go for!!! Just dont expect a friendly Godzilla!!!
