I had a drain issue with my battery which required it to be charged more regularly than other vehicles. Previously, I had a serviceable but ageing charger that needed to be placed in the engine compartment due to the short leads. I wasn’t happy with this arrangement due to the mains lead trailing in all weathers so I bought this charger as a replacement. The charger is weather resistant for a start and designed for Stop/Start batteries. I bought a long 12 lead so that the charger could be left in the shed and only a low voltage lead trained to the vehicle. In use, this couldn’t have been simpler to use. Connect to the battery and turn on the power to the charger. You then need to press the single button to move to each charge mode. The first press is for 12v ‘summer’ mode. Not sure what that means to be honest but there’s a 12v ‘winter’ mode option if the press the button once more. Two more presses and you get the two 6v summer & winter modes. The charger let’s you know the initial batter voltage then starts charging, with bars indicating the charge level and the voltage supplied showing too. Just leave it and it will finish charging before indicating ‘charged’. It then goes to trickle charge automatically. It really is that simple. I think buying the longer 12v lead was a good option for me buy your situation may differ of course. The charger gets very slightly warm in use but it’s nothing to worry about. Would definitely recommend this one for simplicity and build quality.

Brilliant trickle charger I brought it for my car. It so easy to use and charges my car battery up great, it even made my stop start work again after one year of it not working. I like the fact it has winter mode on the charger as well. Great price, I wish it came with a case though even a material one. But for the price you can't complain. I brought an extension lead for the battery terminals. As the cables are quite short.

4 stars as a few issues. A glitch on first charging. The battery on trickle never got above a certain level. But in fact the charger had a slight glitch. Switch off and on again and was all good at 100% and trickling. The settings aren’t great, can’t really switch between. But only need the one setting on my car. I bought the extension leads separately. So can have the charger in the house and the cables out the letterbox and onto the drive. Have an older car, with start stop engine. But unless I trickle this overnight the start stop rarely works. Haven’t needed a new battery (also able to charge the auxiliary battery in the boot) which controls the stop/start and other functions.

A really easy to use charger with a one button control for different modes, car / motorcycle for example, and compatible with modern batteries used on vehicles with stop / start. Supplied with traditional "crocodile" clips for the battery of a hard wire cable that can be left permanently on the vehicle. I chose to hard wire mine. Modern cars use battery power even when parked up, alarms, dash cams, even the clock and radio all use your battery power. If you have a car with stop/start you will know that also makes the battery work hard, so this charger is great for keeping your battery in top condition. Once the charger has brought the battery back to full charge, it can be left connected and will keep the battery topped up and conditioned. The unit is rated IP65, so is reasonably weatherproof, although I haven't put this to the test. overall excellent value and I'd recommend it.

For the ordinary user it just clips on and goes well. However, if you really want to properly tailor the output to the battery, for example, AGM, the instruction leaflet is nothing short of a sick joke. Most people using this charger for an ordinary wet lead acid battery will have no problem with it, but most people simply blindly clipping it onto an AGM will be undercharging their battery. Tip - for AGM, select the frost symbol and it will output up to 14.8V, enough to keep AGMs happy. After it goes into FUL display, it will periodically give a burst of top-up charge for long term maintenance. However, having said all that, I'm happy enough with it, as it re-assures me my AGM bike batteries are OK for a while yet. I'd been unwittingly under-charging them with another older so-called 'smart' charger. <update> I just discovered that it will rescue a totally depleted battery if left on "Er2" for a few hours. The display will eventually creep up to 3.3V, then you can unplug the charger, re-plug it into the mains and the processor will leap to AGM charging and carry on from 9.5V upwards.
