Understanding the Connection between Mind and Body - a MUST read!
This was a fascinating journey told by an expert yogi-scientist who has a creative way of weaving information into a story line that is both interesting and educational. Yoga is for everyone and anyone! Everyone is capable! There are so many positive outcomes and results when you practice yoga consistently. This book goes beyond the typical yoga practice and actually provides relevant data to prove that the mind and body connection is a valuable and underused resource for those who want to succeed. Dr. Nelson shows that involuntary reactions can be controlled through mediation and relaxation. One can prepare the mind and body in advance to handle any situation and Dr. Nelson's book helps the reader to discover various techniques to accomplish this. Dr. Nelson includes plenty of scientific research behind the electrical pathways in the brain and she brilliantly elaborates on how yoga, breathing and finding serenity will not only put you in a state of peace, but also propel you into a more controlled mind frame resulting in clearer thinking, less stress, and an improved ability to solve problems quicker and smarter. Dr. Nelson touches on the importance of genetics and anatomy and how they relate to the muscular structure of the body. She explains that a lack of use of certain muscle groups will eventually lead to imbalance, but through yoga, you exercise those unused muscles and return balance to your body and mind. This balance leads to harmony and subsequently helps you let go of stress. Dr. Nelson emphasizes how savasana, with deep breathing, will teach you to relax and in turn, connect your mind, body and soul "like a rhythm of a soothing song." Dr. Nelson articulates the importance of enjoying the little movements that your own body needs to relax and ultimately she teaches your mind how to cultivate subconscious meditation and create mindfulness memory using savasana. She carefully walks you through the process with perfect detail so that anyone can understand and gain the new perspective that comes from an active mindfulness journey. A wonderful read, I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in learning more about mindfulness.

Savasana Always!
Gateway to Mindfulness is a wonderfully written, perfect description of what Savasana is and why this is such an important part of not only a yoga practice but our everyday lives! Tayna's journey makes this easy for anyone to understand and follow. I also loved the illustrators water color adaptations of this special story :) Please share this light read with children also...starting young makes all the difference in Letting Go! Deeper understanding of savasana
Gateway to Mindfulness by Dr. Leticia Nelson is a fascinating book that lets you escape into the magnificent cerrado (a vast and biologically diverse savannah) of Brazil while following the avatar Tayna. Letty shares the scientific knowledge of what is happening in your mind and body during the final pose in yoga-savasana. She writes in a detailed yet very comprehensive way. I feel informed and inspired to continue my practice of yoga but also to get out and explore the wonders of the cerrado. Thank you for opening me up to both of these amazing worlds!

Absolutely fantastic book! The author blends a beautiful story together with science to show us, empirically, the ability of our mind to heal our body from the stress we all confront daily. Highly recommend this book to all ages! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An out of this world story to heal the mind and body
I have tried meditating many times in the past and present when stressed from work and especially during this time due to the COVID19 virus. I have found it effective but after reading Gateway to Mindfulness it resonates so much more. The author, Leticia Nelson, completely draws the reader into this world where one becomes holistically in touch with their body and mind. Tanya, the lead character in the book takes you on this journey and makes you feel like you are there in her footsteps, feeling the breeze, beautiful views and waterfalls of the Cerrado. It feelslike an out of body experience with an innate feeling of calm and healing of the soul. If everyone practiced mindfulness the world would be a better place. I highly recommend this book!
