Receptacle Outlet Box Extender, Electrical Outlet Extender for Electrical Box and Electrical Outlet Switches, UL Listed – 1/2" Two Gang 5-Pack

I had renovations in my house and when the contractor added another sheet of drywall, the outlet box was too deeply set in the wall for the switches to work let alone attach the switch plate. I bought this to push the box forward 1/2" so it would again be flush with the wall and it worked great.First, turn off the switch breaker for the circuit you are working with. Then take out the screws holding the existing switches onto the switch box, pull out the switches and place the extender behind them - flush with the switch box. Then use the existing screws (you may need longer 6/32 screws, probably 1.25" x 6/32 would work) to reinstall the switches or outlets onto the existing box and you're done!

The thing I like about these are: 1) You can easily stack them when you need something deeper 2) Since they are plastic, it's easy to adapt them to your needs. I asked a question about a 4 gang box. I will be posting an answer to that showing how I was able to make these work for that scenario. In another case, I needed an inch extension, so just place one over the other and it worked great. If they stick out a little far, it's really easy to trim them to be perfect.

Great quality worked for my old walls

Compared to the other style of box extenders, these are much better as they provide a firmer base to screw down to. This can be a big plus when working with cabinets with flexible backs.Although the instructions are a little vague, they seem to indicate the extenders can be stacked. For example, using two 1/2 inch extenders to get a 1 inch extension. Everything snugs down well.I was concerned about using USB receptacles which tend to be pretty wide. No problems fitting two of these side by side in a dual gang extender.

Because they are mde of PVC, I was able to make a 3-gang extender out of them using sprinkler pipe glue.

Works great especially where you don’t have a lip on the drywall to catch the traditional box extenders
