Updated: The screw for the battery is in the smoke stack on top. NOT in the bottom where most batteries are. This says battery operated, but I was unable to change the battery. The battery is wired into the engine.

I bought this for my grandson to go with the BRIO train set we also bought. The little engine only runs with one battery, so it's torque is pretty limited. It does pull the two cars through the layout just fine however. I didn't realize that the cement mixer turns as it is pulled so that was a pleasant surprise. Nice product.

My son got a train-set and train-table for Christmas, so I got this to go with everything. The coolest part about this is the fact that it is battery operated. My son is 19 months old, and he just gets a kick out of watching it chug around the track on its own. The battery doesn't last too long, but it's just a single AAA. I love Brio, and I like the fact that it is compatible with other sets.

We have been potty training our train crazy son and it has been very difficult (he's autistic). He's struggling with #2 especially so I've been stocking up on little potty presents he can open if he has a success. This was the most recent potty present and he LOVES it! Indeed, it is very cute and works amazingly well! Some of these little battery powered magnetic trains (this takes one AAA) don't have enough guts to make it up a mild incline but this one has a surprising amount of power for its size! It's slow for sure, but my son doesn't mind. He only cares when they get derailed or can't make it up the hill. It's compatible with all the other magnetic trains and train cars out there and works on all our different brands of wooden track. Also unlike other trains of this sort, both of the cars it come with have action! The cement mixer spins and the coal car tips back and forth, also the front light of the train comes on and it goes backward and forward. Very very cute. All of these trains feel pretty expensive to me, but compared to most, you really get a lot out of this one. It's a definite winner in our house! Hope this helps. I am way more impressed with this train than I expected to be! I didn't realize when I bought it that it would actually work on his wooden train tracks. That has made it a HUGE hit. It's easily his favorite train. With fresh batteries, it's strong enough to pull not only the two cars it comes with (which also have movement), but can pull other cars as well. Only a couple of small negatives. It's very quiet when it runs. Most probably think that's a positive, but I would prefer it to give a little more noise so I can locate it when the toddler has left it on. Also, the switch is a little tough for him to work because it has to be in the middle to be off. I think he'll get the hang of it eventually, but in the meantime mom will need to help.

These trains are so fun. They fit perfectly on the BRIO tracks. They’re magnetic, so the yellow one (with the battery) pulls along the other two cars. The coal car tips side to side as it moves, and the cement car’s drum mixer rotates as it moves, which makes it fun and realistic. So good at this price point! Would recommend.

Goes through a new battery every day. Cool toy but after the third day in a row replacing the battery, we gave up. Seems like battery needs to be replaced after a couple hours of use.

Mi niño lleva jugando un par de meses con el trenecito y le encanta, es de un material resistente, con un diseño original, ya que giran los vagoncitos al andar. Se ha golpeado mucho y siguen tal cual, son muy fuertes. Anda más rápido que otra locomotora que compré y la batería le dura un poco más. Carga más vagoncintos que la otra y sube cuestas. Está genial. Lo único que no me gusta es que la pila se gasta en uno o dos días si lo juega un par de horas. Le pongo recargables, pero lo ideal sería que venga con cargador opcional.
