Are the lids airtight?

Not in the true sense. But the lids have a "lip" that extends down into the jar and over the upper edge. So once the lid is on, the only air inside will be what it started with. We use them to store our dog's food and treats on the counter so that they are easily accessible, and the lids keep bugs, dust, etc., out.
