I have my guitar straight into the TS9 going into a noise gate, into my Peavey 6505+ and it brings out the best possible tone on the Lead channel. It just has the perfect drive to bring out the distortion and it chugs perfectly for metal and rock. In addition the TS9 create great tone for single notes, they’re really clear and sharp, and nothing sounds fuzzy or muddy. That is, if you turn the drive nob fully, then it can be muddy sounding. You need very little drive for this to work well. Great sounding pedal, would recommend for anyone regardless of the genre you play. A solid state amp and a tube amp heavily-driven are completely different beasts. Most of us that play sit in the middle. I usually use a Fender Deluxe VM with 40w, on "3" because anything more attracts a lot of attention. It is still much richer than any solid state amp. If I could turn it to "6" or better, I could hear sounds that God intended us to hear.If you have a solid state amp now, feel free to explore the world of effects or even buy a multi-effects processor. I have a Line 6 HD500X processor and it models everything - every pedal, effect, amp, etc, and you just put that out through a clean channel like some studio monitors. Then you can do everything. I mostly play metal and alternative but it is versatile pedal, so you can use it with any amp. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Classic Overdrive With Bite *by G***S on July 17, 2015* This is one bad to the bone pedal, it does a very good job of adding "cut", to your sound, and giving a more gnarly, lead-esque type tone. I used this to pair with a ts808 (as the 808 on it's own into a clean amp just doesn't produce enough distortion), and it works VERY well. This to my ears, is a slightly darker, more biting sound, with obviously more overdrive & from what I've read and as well checks out to the ear test, a slight increase in output. That said, it's a great, versatile pedal. This pedal ranges I'd say from very light overdrive, to almost being a faux distortion pedal, and can easily imitate a fuzz pedal with another pedal to boost it (which I do, sounds great). Can't go wrong with the classics, I've purchased some very expensive pedals, and I hated many of them with a deep seated passion.
